Last year, right before hunting season, I ordered a couple 72's. I had meant to take some pictures, and post them, but when hunting season rolls around, everything else goes out the window :D

Over time I forgot about doing it, but remembered today. One is Antique Green. The other is Cocobolo. The wood is actually a lighter color of brown and very pretty, but in the pictures it looks more like Ebony. While these are a lockback, I still look at the pattern itself as Traditional. I have never felt I need a lock, but I like the pattern, and at just under 4 inches closed, they fit my big hands nicely, and still carry very well in pocket...

The workmanship on these is outstanding. I know some have complained about having some lock rock, and side to side play with the 72's, but all three of mine are very nicely fit, and you really have to try to make them move. Under normal use, I have never noticed any play or movement...

Up first are the two new ones...

Up next are the two new ones, with their older brother...
When these knives came out, the Burnt Orange really caught my eye, and I had planned on eventually getting one. It wasn't long after, Willgoy started a GAW for the very knife I really wanted. I don't often enter GAW's, but for this knife, I was in :D
Much to my surprise, I won. Needless to say, I was very happy, and very greatful, and couldn't wait for it to arrive. Since it's arrival, it has spent countless days in pocket, as well as accompanied me on many hunting, fishing, and camping trips.... It's a knife I will have until I am to old to carry one, and at that time, along with all of my other knives, it will go to my son Travis, and he can carry it for many more years.

Gotta love these! The 72 & 73 are my favorite patterns from GEC. That orange is really nice - I've not seen that pattern before.

What a sweet line up of 73's Mike, I love mine, and I can see why you are Rapt with yours!

Good on Ya Will!

Thanks Duncan, Which one do you have ? I should have started a 72 thread because I don't often see people posting pictures of them

The burnt orange is cool. IIRC, they offered a few other patterns in this color.

My apologies Mike, I should have said 72's,
I have both the 72 and 73, but the 72 is a wee bit of a special run I believe with bottom cap etc, beautiful knife....

Some beauties there Mike and a fine plan too:)

I do like mine, I'd be very tempted by a drop point version as I find the clip has a little too much belly for an EDC knife (looks great though!:))

Sam

I picked this spear bladed 72 up on the exchange forum. These would make a great dedicated skinner IMO.

Best regards

Robin

These pictures are of a 73 Liner Lock version with a Drop Point Blade?

I think so. I think its a #735109EC, 1 of 28, made in 2012 with left over parts.

Here's a few #72s...

Don't have the red elk or red wine bone anymore.

The 72 is a nice sized knife. Easy to open but a little hard to unlock. Is this the lock rock mentioned earlier?

Think I'll put it in the pocket today

Not specifically lock rock (that's up and down blade movement when locked open). I've had that problem on a back lock. After lots of fiddling around I figured out the easiest was to give it a gentle tap on something before unlocking it.

Still very nice Duncan. Thanks for the pics

Sam

I would also like a drop point version. It's probably a good thing they don't offer one though, I would probably end up broke :D
That's a great looking knife Sam. Yours is actually very close to the color of my Cocobolo, but for some reason yesterday I couldn't get the picture to show the color...
The patina on the blade looks really good :D

Very nice Robin. I have had the same thought about the Spear point. Looking at the 74 Cotton Sampler, I also thought those would make a great skinner...

Very nice. I really like the red wine, and red stag knives, but they are all nice

That's a nice one... I can't remember what that bone color is called. I had it in my head when I started typing, and then it went away :o
I guess I got lucky on mine. All three are very tight, but it only takes the slightest pressure to release the blade. If yours is tight enough that you have to tap it on something to release it, it may wear in with time, or you could always send it back and have them tweak it a little.

My apologies, my memory wasn't serving me so well, - Trand you are so very right - so I dug it out this morning and the number is exactly right - 735109 and I feel extremely embarrassed at this moment :o, as I don't have too many of these and I now stand corrected, I now don't have a 72 and 73, but two 73's! lol
I am so sorry Mike to interfere with your Thread as I do love the ebony 73 - thinking it was a 72 - so wanted to show it to you, sometimes my enthusiasm with knives gets the better of me and I do this exact thingsorry guys -
I have never been one to understand the serial numbers.

And you can see why Jeff, that's a beautiful knife, I don't care if I call it a 73 72, or 99 - its a darned nice knife!!
