I ended up being gone for a bit longer than I'd expected. I just did my yearly shutdown/upgrade in my shop, planned one week, took one month. Oct 13 marked one year of me making knives full time. It got pretty bumpy, but I'm still here and starting my second year.
Monday I shipped the rest of my immediate backlog work, so yesterday for the holiday I got to work on the first two blades, and first two new patterns out of my improved shop, and here they are. It sure is nice to be making blades again.
I realized I was getting into a bit of a rut, and made an entire HT batch of nothing but new patterns. These are two of my favorites, that I decided to finish out first.
First up we have a field knife/tactical pattern. Those that follow my work know that I work less often in man-made materials such as CF and Micarta. That does not mean that I do not like them though.
This blade is built to be heavy duty AND practical, which is something that many tacticals fail at to some degree IMO. For those not familiar, CTS-XHP is a powdered metallurgy steel made in the USA by Carpenter. It is fine grained and takes a scalpel like edge, but its edge retention has led it to be called a "stainless D2". It also sharpens more easily than is typical of most high end stainlesses running at higher hardnesses. This knife looks pretty, but it also walks the walk.
The G10 bolsters are triple-pinned, and the lightning strike CF scale is hidden pinned through the tang, so this one should be staying together. I tucked a hidden lanyard hole into the butt, to keep things clean looking.
The recurve blade is close to zero-ground, and will come shaving sharp from start to finish. The clip is unsharpened. The tang is tapered and skeletonized for balance, and the scales are sculpted for comfort.
CTS-XHP @ 61 w/LN2 Cryo
5" edge length, 9.75" OAL
3/16" stock thickness
Black G10 and LS CF
416ss pins
Price is $310 w/kydex, $330 w/leather. This could work as a tactical or field knife, that's why I'm giving the choice on sheath. Paypal preferred.
Next up is a new caping knife pattern, per customer request. I LOVE this one. Not to crap on my Kiridashi patterns, but I would carry this one over them pretty much any day, if I wasn't counting style (or maybe if I was).
Super practical, and designed specifically to facilitate cleaning of small game, or precision tasks. Works well in multiple grips... it's one of those that surprises you when you hold it. Easily held with a full four finger grip.
Full flat ground blade will come scalpel sharp.
CTS-XHP @ 61 w/LN2 Cryo
2" edge length, 6.375" OAL
5/32" stock thickness
K&G stabilized dyed buckeye burl
416ss pins
I'd like $155 shipped, price includes premium leather pocket sleeve, $5 addl. will convert sleeve to sheath. Paypal preferred.
