And I absolutely love them! Both are in the black DLC YXR7 steel

A happy family of three:

Beautiful threesome. Nothing like a Rockstead, and you don't know till you own one. :D

Thanks! I agree, there really is nothing like them at least production wise IMO. All my other knives, even the nicer ones like Shirogorov just are not in this league

Beautiful crew rexbo. Hope I get to see one in person someday.

Thanks buddy... I think that anyone who loves/appreciates folding knives owes themselves a look. People don't have to buy one, but definitely check them out a Bladeshow or at a dealer.

Beyond just the blade quality, the thing that I have come to appreciate is just how beautifully they operate. The opening, lockup, and closing is first rate. Never thought another knife brand would so clearly surpass a CRK in this category, it blows me away.

How do you keep them so clean! The old one looks brand new! Cheaper direct from Japan?

Well, the Chi & the Kou are brand new... The "old one" is only like a month old and only lightly used (so far)

And yes, I have found them cheapest direct from the Rockstead store. The shipping over is free and dang fast, I had the knives in hand within 4 days from order!

Well, my buddy "Blues Bender" certainly loves his...and actually uses it in his contracting work...which is heavy-duty indeed. I'm reluctant to even think about buying one, as I would be sad if the blade were to get scratched in use. (I generally prefer a stone-washed finish)
One question to the OP...the bottom knife in the photo of three appears to have an edge which has been ground to a much smaller included angle. Or am I just seeing things?
How thick are these blades, generally, and at what included angle are they ground at the edge?
thanx...
p.s. They ARE beautiful blades...

No, you're not seeing things... it (the Chi) has a SHINOGI-ZUKURI grind, whereas the first two (Shin and Kou) have a HON-ZUKURI grind. The blades are 0.145" thick and the edge angle is 24 on the SHINOGI-ZUKURI grind, the HON-ZUKURI is convex from start to finish

What's not to love? Except maybe how to keep them as sharp and pristine even as users. I admit to being a bit intimidated by these. I've been a Rockstead web site lurker but haven't gone so far as to give them my contact info. This thread might give me the nudge.

They are without a doubt exceptional in all respects.

That was actually part of the reason I bought them... Rockstead claims (we shall see! haha) that a simple strop will bring them back sharpness wise after basic use. Secondly, Bluse Bender here has some excellent video's on how to sharpen yourself if you have to.. for me I will likely ship back to the mothership if I actually have to get into serious sharpening or fixing a nuck/chip, no big deal with EMS shipping.. shit it's quicker and cheaper in many cases compared to shipping USPS in this country :)

What's the "Rockstead store"? Rockstead told me they won't sell directly and linked me to 3 US dealers. Thanks for info.
