I bought the blade with rivets and a set of pre-shaped handles from bensbackwoods and I want to swap the brass Corby rivets with stainless ones. I also want to add a lanyard tube. I plan on buying the parts from knifekits.com (unless someone has a better suggestion). I have read several posts on this subject but I couldn't find this exact info. Please excuse me if these seem silly because I have never done this before.

Questions:

1. Does anyone know what dimensions the rivets need to be to fit this blade and scales? (Head Diameter X Step Diameter) I know the pin holes are 3/16". Would 1/4" X 3/16" be correct? I don't want to have to buy a step-drill to make the pins fit.
2. Would 1/4" lanyard tubing be correct? The hole in the blade is 1/4" and this is the obvious choice but I want to be sure before I order.
3. Does the lanyard tube need to be epoxied or is the fit tight enough that it can be hammered in with a mallet?

Thanks

This is kinda weird...I just got 10 stainless Corbys in the mail today, same size as yours, plus I'm awaiting a Enzo blade I bought on the bay a couple days ago.
answers to your questions:
1.Yes, you got it right. Drill 3/16 all the way thru, then drill 1/4" into both sides of the handles enough to seat on step.
2. Yes, you got it right.
3. I epoxy or crazy glue the lanyard tube in.....pretty tight fit but the glue doesn't hurt.
I'll trade ya a stainless Corby for the brass one if you want. Need stainless lanyrd tube?

Heck yeah a trade sounds good...2 Brass Corbys for 2 Stainless Corbys...I could use enough stainless lanyard tubing for one handle, too...I'm waiting on the order from Ben's (which souldn't take long). When I get my order I'll PM you with my address and you can give me yours and let me know how much I owe you for the tubing...

Hey PharmBoy....got my Enzo blade in the mail yesterday.....got the second side glued up this morning.......I'm gonna set the Corby bolts in epoxy, probably tonight so I won't be sanding on the handles til tomorrow......

Way to go man! Danish oil on Bocote:thumbup:...I got my kit from Ben's today and I can't wait to start gluing and sanding on this bad boy...I noticed that one of the brass Corby's has longer heads than the other one...I assume the longer bit is used in the hole nearest the tip(thicker area of scales) and the shorter one is used in the hole nearest the butt(thinner area of scales)...Are the stainless bits I'm trading you for this way?(ie, one longer than the other)...Are the two different lengths necessary?...If my bits are on the way and they won't work I can send them back, or if they are the same and will work then I can get those brass ones to you...Either way, let me know and PM me your mailing address...Thanks!

The stainless ones are both the same...don't matter that the brass ones are not....they get grounded down anyway...so they will work just fine.
PM on the way.
