Years ago I ordered a Vtech neck knife (didn't know much about knives back then), presumably because it looked cool. It was 3.75" blade length, hollow ground, spear point, 440A, made in Taiwan. The first one (which cost me $10) didn't come with a sheath, so the company sent me a second for free. I put cord wrapping over the original wrapping, which use thin black cord you see at the lanyard. They don't fill your hand like a proper handle, but they aren't bad. I've reprofiled them with more acute bevel so they carve better. The spine is squared up so they throw decent sparks with a firesteel. Being a solid bar of steel, they are pretty strong. I've gotten one stuck in knotty wood while batoning and it survived. They are not a perfect bush blade, but they will do. One lives in my BOB, and another is a household utility blade. While I worry about batoning my Mora, I'd not hesitiate with these guys. Thanks for reading!

that is the only way that you can use knives like this. beat the crap out of them and see if you got ripped off or if you are happy.

Agreed. I bought a little fixed blade at a gun show for $4 about 7 years ago, and I beat the living heck out of it (Cut wire, pry, whittled, it's seen it all). All I've done to it was re-wrap with with some DT paracord (Poorly I might add, just for some grip.) and it stays in my hiking pack as my "Little Chinese made blade that could."

I say if they work, let them be used.
