Here are a couple of knives I'm just about finished with. I like getting feedback from you guys in WS&S because you get out and use your gear. If anyone has any critiques or suggestions please let me know and thanks for looking.

The one on top was made at the request of a friend. He wanted a "tactical pig splitter". He hunts hogs pretty regularly and wanted a knife with a guthook (my first) and a handle that wouldn't let his hand slip. Here is what we came up with. It is 154CM with a heavily textured G10 handle.

The knife below that is my first forged knife. It is nearly 3/16" at the spin but has a nice thin edge. It is 1070 with hickory handles and a hemp cord wrap at the top of the handle. I am going to soak the cord with epoxy to seal it. I'm planning to make some sort of rawhide/period style sheath for this one.

I realize that 1070 isn't a high performance steel but it's what I had on hand when I got my forge up and running and I HAD to make something! It's sort of a bull nose skinner. I think if the tip had more of a point in the midline this would be a pretty good knife to bum around the woods with.

The forged knife was pretty heavily influence by Magnussen's style of knife. I really like the forge finished look.

Thanks for looking.

Shawn that forged one is outstanding....lookin good!

I really like the look of the forged blade,

…raise the point a little and add a bit more belly and you’ll have a real winner.

Really nice stuff!

I realize that 1070 isn't a high performance steel but it's what I had on hand when I got my forge up and running and I HAD to make something!

This is what a lot of folks tend to say but doesn't match my personal experience. My best knives are in 1080 and 1070.

Very nice...particularly the forged blade. Attractive and looks very functional. Wouldn't change a thing except for the steel.

I love the look of the forged one, I bet it will be a great all rounder !!!!

Thank you all very much for all of the comments. The pig knife isn't what I'd prefer in a hunting knife but it isn't for me. I prefer my hunting knives to be small and simple. I'm not personally a fan of the guthook but it certainly has it's following.

The forged knife was something new for me. I have really enjoyed the look and feel of knives finished like this and wanted to try it for a long time. I bought some 1084 from Aldo Bruno and when I get more orders caught up I'm going to be playing with that. I'm also working on a large knife for a cutting competition at the Branson hammer in this summer. I haven't committed to competing yet but Brion Tomberlin has been bugging me to give it a try. I suppose I've embarrassed myself in worse ways before.

Thanks again for he comments.
