If you had bnought a custom crafted knife from a well known maker, would you bring it along on a guided big game hunt to Idaho, Alaska or Africa?

No, especially not to Africa. I have my users and my customs, and there's a very wide gap in value between the two. If I had less expensive customs, sure why not?

ALL of my knives are "users". I cut with 'em, beat on 'em, etc. I look at them in the same light as a torque or ratchet wrench.

I'm not a "Hunter" (*by any stretch of the imagination), but have hosted MANY at my Dad's old place.

With that, I'd have absolutely NO issue with handing this little W2 "Bailey" to one of them, to gut/skin/quarter a whitetail or feral hog, during "Hunting Season".

Your mileage may vary...

I think to answer that accurately, you would have to take into account who the custom knife maker was that made your hunting knife. If you you’re talking makers such as Bob Loveless, George Herron, SR Johnson, John Young, etc. whose knives have appreciated in value over the years…I’d probably take a pass on bringing one of those overseas with me. If I had a nice custom from one of the many great makers that sell here on BladeForums …..absolutely!
