Here's one that has been laying in the blem box too long. This was a 10/10 15 inch Ang Khola made by Kesar when I sent it to the customer -- a newbie. He stuck it into some cheap little sharpener like the kind you sometimes see on can openers and cut a grove about an 1/8 inch above the edge as you can see, returned the knife because he said he couldn't sharpen it. Guys who know the most about knives are my best customers. Guys who don't know anything are my worst.

So, if anybody wants to tackle this edge we will deliver this rig to your door for $75 allowing $50 for your effort. Karka and chakma fine, scabbard old style.

Call or email if interested.

Will there be any villagers coming in soon that you know of? If not, I'll take this one. The birthday of a friend (the one whose yard I helped clear a while back) of mine is coming up near the end of this month, and a cheap khuk for him to (ab)use will make a good gift. I'll mail the check.

Uncle Bill would you please be so kind as to
post a group display picture of the villager Khukuris you receive. I am also interested.

You want to talk birthdays. My mom's was in March, my dad's in April, my sister's in may, mother's day, my friend Gary's is on the 10th of this month, my friend Todd's is the 23rd of this month, my friend Al's is the 30th of this month, plus father's day!

Hey Uncle Bill, I might need a few of those villagers.

Sorry, Big Bob. (NOT

) I beat you to this one. Maybe you'll beat me to the villagers, though. They always spark a feeding frenzy. I've been on the lookout for some time too. We've all got some friends or family who need presents, don't we.

There's no way Gelbu is going to manage to keep up with the demand, but it's sure no problem to sell all that he can find, is it?

I love the villagers. It's not that there's anything wrong with the BirGorka products. (Quite the contrary.) But there's something authentic about the villagers. They have no pretensions and are just what they are -- simple tools intended to work hard with no temptation at all to turn into decorations.

I've got a Bura-made 18" Sirupati that I really ought to sell off because I've been reluctant to even sharpen it, let alone chop stuff with it. All I've done with it is rub Hooflex into the horn handles. It's a shame, really, because it was made to use, but it's so pristine that I have a hard time thinking I might mess it up. The blems and villagers don't cause any conflicts like that. They're already scuffed, scratched and ready to take out, sharpen up, and chop stuff with.

I know. It's a character flaw in me, but that first scratch seems to be the hardest.

A tool is, basically, an object that enables you to take advantage of the laws of physics and mechanics in such a way that you can seriously injure yourself.

Well Phooey. A double post! I try to avoid those and am usually careful. I know what I did, though. I was looking at the post after making it (the posting software always takes you there after posting) and I hit the back button! That did it. Yet another hazard now known. As T. A. Edison was reputed to have said "It's not a failure. Now I know 10,000 things that don't work."

Amazing how fast the optional sharpener on a can openner can work (or not). Unfortunately, the qualitity leaves a lot to be desired.

Well, it's here. This isn't any kind of field report. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it ought to be just fine. It is kind of scratched up around the edge, but it seems completely functional. It could be sharper (and it will be very soon

), but it does have a basic edge. It's certainly nowhere near as dull as an Al Gore press conference.

I am puzzled about how anyone who knows sharp so poorly that he would try to use one of those scraper type "sharpeners" would even notice that this one wasn't sharp. After all, those scrapers really don't get them noticeably sharper than this anyway.

The scabbard is a bit tight (as Uncle Bill warned me it was), but not too bad. (Well, too bad for regular use, but not worse than I can handle.) It's pretty much what you'd expect from sitting around in Reno for longer than a few days. After a couple of weeks in the Midwest it should be just perfect.

Anyway, I definitely will use this knife.
