Maybe this is slightly off topic, but I got to spend the day with my Pop on a homemade paddlewheel that he and my uncle are building. They're planning on taking it down the Mississippi river sometime next summer (when it's finished), which will require a good bit of survival skills I suppose. Anyway, thought I'd share some pics of a lazy trip around the lake.

The USS American... so far.

That is really, really neat!! Thanks for telling us. Keep us updated on the progress.

That's amazing, give your pop a pat on the back for me !!!!

I could just imagine sailing down the Mississippi river on it with a cold beer in my hand....awesome !!!!

Thats really cool. Nice work. I would really like to see updated pics of the boat as it progresses, and a full trip report!

Yes. They plan on building a cabin on it. First things first, though, need to get the steering system figured out (that's why we were out yesterday). My uncle came up with an air system, but Dad & I think it's too complicated and unwieldy. Cable's the way to go.

National Geographic actually wanted to do a piece on them, but Pop said "no". He didn't want photographers etc. around when he "hangs the hog" off the back of the boat... giggle. My brothers and I are going to force him to do a blog as they travel down the Big Muddy.
