A Day at the NY Custom Knife Show...

Hey Greg Yea that was me !! I have been unable to stop playing with this knife since I got it home. Man it is a sweety. I love it. That bowie you picked up was OUTSTANDING !! Cant wait to see the reactions of other Forum folk when they see the pics of that. They are going to flip out. Your going t have to beat away offers. Great purchase ! Cant believe there were any customs left today. I figured by saturday there would only be basics left. Im going to try and post a pic of my latest aquisition sometime this week.

To answer Nakano's question: No I am not the lucky stiff who bagged one of the 3 available (one each day) Spyderwrenches- was hoping one of us would get it & write up a nice review- I was able to mess w/ the demo for a while- quite a tool. I got hung up @ home & wasn't there when the door opened at 12:00. Kin- Thanx for the info on the checkering- that chunky tactical I had needs some improvement & you'll be happy to know that the Tuff Cloth will be going to a friend on my team who is a Transit cop & needs it for his Service Pistol. (I also got him a WOO). Lifter- nice to meet you at Newt's table- Hope your son enjoys the "spike". Was nice to meet Newt & talk knives & Life in General- A real Gentleman who delivers a quality product at a great price. He has some new toys due out soon.
Did anyone see the "Tactical Butterknife" available at Bud Nealy's table? I was laughing so hard... (no, really, I'm not kidding- a tactical butterknife).
Arno Bernhard had some super little utility blades- I got one like bcaffrey- really nice little piece- great price (I got a good deal- I think it's because I had the score on Saturday's Rugby World Cup final- South Africans are mad about Rugby). Ricky Fowler wanted to trade a knife for my leather briefcase- too much sentimental attachment to let it go- not even for a quality knife. Did anybody see the stag-handled, Loveless-style dropped Hunter at Russ Easler's table? (next to Ron Gaston) What a beauty- Mosaic pins, mirror-finish- under $200.00! I have one of his hunters- sweet little knife- good maker- super value. Bought a Neck Peck from Greg Bachley at the Skylands table- having a lot of fin with that little knife- may even put thin little scales on it for laughs. It's always a litte bit of a bummer to take that escalator back downstairs- had to dodge folks in town for the NYC marathon. Did anybody notice the guys who were in the Hotel for the Oncology conference one floor below come up & ogle the goods? I saw one guy fall quietly in love w/ a mosaic damascus folder- we may have won a convert-
Until March 2000!

Rugger,
I was standing in line on Friday, waiting for the show to open. Paul Tausig came out with a knife and a kydex sheath and remarked while chuckling, "tactical butter knife". That might have been what I saw him stash away. Didn't get a good look at it, though.

Rugger, was nice to meet you too.Sorry I couldnt remember your name but after 6 hours there Fiday and 4 on Saturday was burnt out.
Yes, saw that stag hunter at Easler's table, was a beauty. If I hadnt already blown my load it would have gone home with me. I have an Easler hunter and he makes a quality knife at a reasonable price. He's the one who started and taught Gaston, you know.
By the way, did any of you guys see the 2 Hartsfeld's at the Randall table? RJ Martin definitely makes a better looking knife at a much more realistic price. After talking to Les Robertson and finding out that Hartsfeld wont do any work or even sharpen one of his knives if you didnt buy it directly from him,
they are definitely off my list.
PS to Les-did you have those knives on your table checked out to see if there were any with more than one soul?

I don't know if it was the same guy, Rugger, but one fellow in full black tie is already a full-fledged knife nut. He was talking to Dennis Blaine of Cutlery Specialties about storage cases & I overheard him saying that he had knives stuck in drawers everywhere and really wanted to get organized.

Cheers,

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

first off, id like to apologize to all the fellow forumites i met, im not the most social person, and i wasnt intending ot be rude or anything, im just not too good at meeting people/interacting with others, especially in a crowded busy place.

i managed to get the first spyderench, im kinda suprised cause i didnt even wait in line or anything, i showed up right around 12, was in line for a minute or two, bought ticket, and went straight to the spyderco table.

ill see if i can get a bit of a review up later tonight, i really like the tool. overall, not quite as usefull as a typical multi-tool, but i think it should be much better for mechanical type things with the hex bits, and separatable adjustable wrench.
