Yesterday, I went over to my PO Box to pick up a couple of packages sent to me by friends on the forum, and was absolutely thrilled by them :)

The first contained some thoughtful gifts from Âchillepattada Âchillepattada :) Included was a beautiful French 'Alpin' pattern, produced in Thiers, using vintage parts, by Les Vielles Lames. I love this idea of using older parts, which were never actually made up into knives. This did happen in Sheffield, but tens of thousands of blades and springs must have been wasted. Indeed when the old Joseph Rodgers cutlers had to move to the Richards factory, after the Imperial buyout, they emptied trays of blades out of the windows, into the River Sheaf behind the factory!

I don't know much about French knife patterns, but I have admired the Alpin before, and considered purchasing one. However, they are generally a little large for regular pocket carry here in the UK. The example that Jean-Marc sent me though, is the perfect size, and is beautifully made, with fine ebony handles  Many thanks for thinking of me Jean-Marc :)

As if this wasn't enough, I also received a bumper package of goodies from my friend btb01 btb01 (and his eldest daughter Eleanor!) :)

Along with all the goodies enclosed in the parcel, I'm sure you can spot a fine example of Eric Albers' knife making :) Eric is a part of this forum, and I have long-wanted an example of his work, but due to time differences, and the high demand, it's difficult - I'm inevitably sound asleep in bed, when he offers knives for sale! Barrett had considered this, and thoughtfully obtained this beautiful example, which I have to say, puts some custom knives to shame! The knife is wonderfully constructed, with a narrow blade well, and some very tactile white tail stag. In its simple beauty it reminds me of the best of the Jack knives made by the Sheffield Little Mesters. I'm very impressed :)

And what a wealth of other goodies! :) Barrett had clearly put a great deal of thought into what to enclose, and Eleanor had insisted I was sent some candy :)

Of course, the King of Condiments also enclosed some hot chilli sauce, and also some Chilli Crunch, which I've just tried with my lunch - Wow Barrett! That's a real hit! :) Gorgeous! 😋

Thanks for everything Barrett, most of all, being my pal, of course :) I love that 'Meat Raffle' sticker! :D

Have you gone over the area with your magnet and canoe?
I've thought about it, but they were dumped in the 70's, and I only found out about it a few years ago (strange really, as I knew one of the cutlers there at the time). I think it's been well-combed, but the backs of old cutlery works would probably be a good place for some magnet fishing
Very nice knife.
Meat raffle ticket and Surly brewing decal remind me of the area around St. Cloud Minnesota. That was the first place I encountered either of these
Thanks :) Meat raffles are pretty common in pubs here too :)
Wow indeed ! congrats on all your goodies !
Thanks Steve :)
