A day with MtnFolk Mike

I had the great pleasure of meeting Mike in person on Wednesday. I had a day off so I went up to his place and hung out with him and his youngest kid, Cypress. (Did I spell it right?)

I knew a lot of you guys here are knife nuts, but I didn't realize how bad of a disease it was until I saw Mike's collection. I got to hold just about all of the much talked about blades here on the forums. Some really nice stuff, I have to say.

I also got to check out Cypress' stick collection! His collection of sticks is about on par with Mike's collection of knives. And I'll tell you that has got to be one of the cutest kids I know; he loves the outdoors, and is just full of energy. I have to give you props, Mike, on doing a great job raising that guy.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to meet the rest of the crew, but we had a blast just the three of us (I mean four, sorry Timber).

We took a short hike to the river which is practically a stones throw away from Mikes house. Cypress was swimming (and throwing rocks), Timber (the dog) was fetching, it was an all around great day to spend out side.

Mike is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and he has more hobbies than he knows what to do with, lol.

Anyways, here's a couple of pics I thought you guys might enjoy. Nothing too bushcrafty, but I assure you we(I) spent plenty of time drooling over knives.

Thanks again Mike for your hospitality! I look forward to next time, and hopefully I'll get a chance to meet your wife and other son.

we have a lot of woods around here to explore... next time we'll hit my favorite spot, Fall Creek... it's just a few minutes away...

Thats cool! Mike's been goading me to come for a visit. Unfortunately he lives thousands of miles away. Maybe he should get his knife lovin ass out to Atlanta for the Blade Show sometime ehh? Then again, he'd probably stroke out when he saw the place.

it was a great time... that is one of our favorite spots to go and hang out.. cypress wants to go there everyday... he's big on picnics... he finds some of his best sticks there too...

I'm suppose to hang out with Mike when I drop off the nwa passaround knife, but it's taking longer then I thought so I might just drop by earlier. Maybe we could do a local W&SS get together in SC?

Great pics bro! I only spoke to Mike via email a few times and what you stated about him is the exact impression I got. I am going to visit a friend of mine in Cali this fall, and will hopefully get to hang with Mike and the family while I'm out there. Thats if the invite is still there.

I know how you feel. I couldn't handle more than a couple of years back in Ohio, I'm so glad I'm back.

Maybe we could do a local W&SS get together in SC?

That would be awesome! We should definitely try and get all the norther California members together, and maybe even get a couple of the Southerners to make there way up here.

We could plan a weekend of car camping at one of the parks in Santa Cruz, that way people can show up when they can.
