Ive had a Leatherman Wave about the same time, carry on the belt every day, but did have a couple of problems.
First one was an early model wave, broke the blade locking tab. Took it back to where I had purchased it, they sent it to importer (in Australia) and checked with them a couple weeks later and a new replacement had arrived. It was the updated model.
This one gave me a lot of years good service, a lot of use and abuse. Then one day while cutting a cable tie the main blade broke, I was most likely cutting on to much of an angle.
Now I believed Leatherman had already done the right thing once already and I had well and truly got my moneys worth from them. I contacted the importer and to ask if I could get the blade replaced and was quiet happy to pay for it. But if that couldnt be done, could they do me a deal on a new Wave. The reply I got was simply details on where to send it to.
A week later a band new Leatherman Wave arrived in the mail.
Its life time warranty, but I did feel a bit guiltily about this, I broke it and you have to take responsibility for your own action and pay for your own mistakes.
But dont worry they did get pay back. I got home from work one day and reached for the Wave: it wasnt there. It had been one of the rare days I hadnt used it, searched around the home, no resolute. I had covered a lot of ground that day, so there was no hope of tracking it down.
Over the years the Wave had become part of me, I couldnt be without one. So I ordered one new over the internet and as Murphys law would have it. Within an hour of making payment the old one magically reappeared. Yep and it was in a place I had already looked.
So now I have two Leatherman Waves, one user, one backup, just incase.
I think to get the best from this type of tool you have to keep in mind what they are. They are not a replacement for every tool you have. If you have a job to do, take the right tools. If you are on a job and havent got the right tool the Wave will get you out of trouble, as it has done for me so many times.
