A decent inexpensive small fixed blade

It's a little smaller than what you're looking for but have a look at the Boker Plus Tom Krein Pocket Bowie (2.5", 440C stainless.) Easy enough to find online for under $30.

Good luck!

Take a look at the Cold Steel Roach Belly, its thick enough that it is sturdy, nice blade shape, all for about 13 bucks... Buy 2 send me one. jk:thumbup:

The Pendleton Lite Hunter is a good one. Another that is as good as they get and better than a Mora is the Marttiini Little Classic or Hunter model. They also have better sheaths than Mora.

Sell one or two folders so that you can afford the better fixed blade.

You get the better knife, GF can't complain because you sold something and put the money toward something new. Win-win.

Id rather not sell anything.

Take a look at the Condor Tool and Knife Mini Bushalore. I have several of their knives and you get a lot of bang for your Buck.

Since someone mentioned the Roach Belly, Cold Steel also make a Finn Bear and Canadian Belt Knife - pretty much same materials in different shapes.

For the Mora, I like my Companion Stainless. Very comfortable handle and able blade. The shealth is garbage, almost embarrassing to wear.

If you like your Gerber and want another of the same brand, you may want to check out the Gerber Profile.

cold steel kobun aus-8 is not that much and a great performer if you can deal with the tanto

My favorite "budget fixed blade" is the mora 711 however if you want something a bit more edc worthy you might want to take a look at the Boker Plus Tom Krien pocket Bowie.

I was going to recommend the Becker BK11...

... but it's two or three dollars over your limit and if you can't exceed $30 then you can't. In that case you could do *way* worse than a $10-15 Mora. It's a great knife with good steel and grind for a tiny amount. You won't go wrong there.

Check out the Mora 2/0. The sheath is not very good but the steel is good, the blade is just shy of 3", at less than 2 ounces and less than $15 it fits your bill.

if all the moras seem to have fail sheaths can you get a different sheath seperate for them?

Yes, Moras are so popular that it is easy to find sheaths for them. The bad news is that Moras are so cheap the sheaths cost more than the knives. Check out Ben's Backwoods.
