I have been working on a Kopis inspired design for a while now and think I finally came up with something I like. I call it the kopis brute.

What do you think of the design and its functionality?

I have been throwing around in my mind how to forge the 'guard' pieces and this is what I came up with. I don't have a ton of forging experience so there may be a better way to do this? Do you think this will work? It may be tricky to get the final choil and butt shape right, any tips? My idea was to do a cut (hot cut probably) that you could fold out the tabs and then forge to shape.

Thanks,

I'm not a fan of the double finger grooves, but that is more of a personal taste thing. The rear rivet at the back finger groove seems a bit too close to the grove. Maybe moving both rivets toward the center a tad would help.

Your method of raising the guards works fine. It takes a bit of forging skill, but isn't difficult. If you can, cut the slits with a saw instead of hot cutting. cut ar diagonals from the center. I would take a couple pieces of mild steel and practice bringing the guards out before doing it on the blade steel.

I'm not fond of the design, but that is just personal style preference. I wold consider a different pin layout, adjust the lanyard hole, and smooth the areas I have pointed out some and get rid of the hard angles.

I would echo what's been said so far.
Regarding funtionality, if you're intending it to be a fighter you're good to go, but if it's more of a chopper you'll probably want a little more weight there near the front. In that case probably no swedge.

Everything mentioned are problems I saw but wasn't sure what to do instead. Great ideas, I will probably use them all.
Thanks all!
