A Design game ... any players?

I have an idea for a bit of fun.

Anyone interested in a "Blade Forums Bowie" design.

I'll post a series of spec. options every day or two as a poll. Highest votes for a particular spec is the forum choice.

From there I will put up some initial line drawings and put up a poll for some changes ...... I'll also run a thread for people to post change ideas and suggestions.

We will start be selecting:

Blade Length
Blade Profile
Guard Style
Handle Style

We will leave each poll up for 2 days, after which I'll post the Committees Decision in the thread.

I will draw up a rough line drawing based on the above, the we can play with:

Clip/Swedge
Guard shape
Choil Shape
Ferrule
Pommel
Refine shapes
etc etc.




Could be funny seeing what a knife designing committee comes up with!:D

Looks like we came up with a 10" SouthWest with a morticed/mortised handle and an asymmetrical guard.
Any chance we could continue this thread to include blade steel(s) and handle shape and material choice? :confused: :)

Yep. Voting looks as though it has slowed down, so we will put the first stake in the ground:

10" Blade
SouthWest Profile
Asymmetrical guard
Mortice Handle

I will draw up 3 or 4 variants of each. We will vote on the variants and then put them together.

Then we will start with refinements including choil, handle shape, clip position etc

Kind of off topic but, this kind of reminds me of the pass around bowie - different makers worked on different parts of the knife. Each maker would pass it to the next one when he was done. Does anyone remember what ever happened to that?

I fear this will look like the prototypical ABS bowie of 3-5 years ago, so I will take my marbles and go play somewhere else.:grumpy:

I lost my marbles long ago, so I am not going to comment:D SOOOOOO.......once we come up with a generally accepted design, what happensnext? Is this a maker's challenge? A KITH perhaps?
