As most of you are aware I am a volunteer with a ground Search and Rescue team in Washington State. I am also a qualifed observer and radio operator with WASAR and do volunteer work for WSDOT. Every month I get a news letter from the Director of the Aviation Division at WSDOT. In this month's issue was an article about a device by the name of TracMe. The original story was broken by Doug Ritter at Equiped.org. After reading Mr. Ritter's blogs I felt it was a good idea to share his articles with the rest of you.

Very good read and informative. I will stay away from that device. Thanks!

I think its really messed up how much the CEO of that company defends the use of the PLB name on the package. That really COULD kill someone because it is giving them a false sense of security with a defunk product.

How did you get involved with SAR in Washington? I'd like to check it out sometime :)

I've known about the team I am with since my days in Boy Scouts but got involved about 4 years ago. My younger sister had joined the team and I checked it out and decided to join. I've spent most of my life camping, hiking, etc... it seemed like a good way to stay active in the outdoors. Also it was a good way to justify all the cool gadgets and gear I have purchased over the years.

If you are thinking about getting involved do either a google search for teams in your area or contact the sheriffs office for more information.

wow....an FRS homing beacon....

AND ONLY $150!!!!!!

wait....don't you get a 2 pack of those FRS radios for like $30?

I picked up a two pack for $10 at Wallyworld a couple of months ago.
