A diferent kind of knife......

Jimmy,

I'd like to see it in a case that would allow one to see all sides of the carvings. Maybe a vertical case with glass on all 4 sides or mount it so it could be rotated(like a rotisserie chicken)

LOL,.............. the idea had actually crossed my mind! :)

Thing is, I have plenty of items that would benefit from such types of displays, but I don't want to get too elaborate for all these items. Instead, I choose more traditional methods for displaying them.

I had just finished the display yesterday, but today the feeling was that it needed something else. Not sure what that "something" would be, but my mind started ticking and I came up with two simple additions.

I first added a burgundy colored rope trim to the perimeter of the interior.
Then, I made and added a gold and burgundy colored tassel to the hasp on it's exterior.

Now I'm done ;)

Nope, it sure does not rotate like a rotisserie, but I guess it's a lot more royalty treatment then most other paper knives receive from their owners ;)

How about three angled mirrors that will allow the viewer to see the back of the knife. It would require a little movement by the viewer, but it would allow more of the carving to be seen. :)

btw - It does look great the way it is.

Cheers

That's a good idea, maybe I'll use it in one of my future display builds :)

I used the mirror idea to enhance the view of some rifles in one of my cabinets. I had purchased the wood gun cabinet in unfinished form, sanded it down, finished it, removed the bottom storage area's solid wood panal and replaced it with clear glass to allow it to be another display area. I installed low wattage lighting to both areas (which also doubled as dehumidifiers), added a solid brass decorative handle to it's cabinet door, and then finally added a full length mirror to the back that allowed a better view of all contents.

Most of my homes factory finished wood curio cabinets have full length mirror backing as well (all but one), it sure does add to better viewing, though it sure adds to a whole lot more glass cleaning as well ;)
