A different kind of "heat treatment"

Fortunately I have avoided forging on the few warm days we have had here so far. However, we are barely into the summer here. I have forging work for the next several months starting on monday. I will have to forge some every day. My forging area is 16 x 16 and is difficult to keep cool when the ambient temp is above 80.
I know what it is to work in the heat and you have my empathy.
I'll be sweating along here in the north.
The heat and sweating is good for removing spare tires, if you can remain upright.

I was in my shop for a little while this morning, then it got to hot. It has been in the 100s all week in the Texas Panhandle.

Up here not far from you and official thermometer at the ranch read 102 at 11:45 in the am yesterday. Worked all day outside then came home and went into a boiling knife shop.

i share you pain, i live in san antonio and the heat is brutal, i get up at around 5:30 to beat the heat and work until around 8 or 9 then go hide in the air conditioner and then work in the evening again, its horrible.

Sounds like omeone needs a window air conditioner in the shop.

I'm going to need a pretty big unit to cool a 20X40 shop with 15 foot ceilings. Oh, and no windows, just a big honking garage door. :D I think the unit owner might get mad if I punched a hole in the side of the shop for a big AC unit. Then again, it is my wife's God father so maybe?

Actually, though it gets pretty sweltering, if I put the big turbo fan at the garage door and blow air in, it's not that bad. The units are actually insulated pretty well.

You might switch to a nighttime work schedule.....Midnite to 8am or sumthin'.

Believe me, I feel your pain, I worked as a mechanic in a corrugated tin building. We had big fans, but it was like standing in front of a giant hairdryer.

Here in north west TN. we have two seasons " humid or cold" no spring no fall. Where is it 70 all year round ? That would be sweet.

I am told that we still have four seasons here.

Almost summer....summer....still summer and deer season. :)

At 70 I am looking for a jacket.

I'm a weekend night-owl, and it's been 90+ degrees with 60+% humidity at 0200-0700, not friendly for blade-work at all! I work on polishing one side of a blade, then head into the AC, then hit the other side of the blade... AC in our shops/garages is often not a realistic option down here. Come on, El Nino!

it's been up around 110 here in the OK Panhandle,
on the swamp cooler in the house I've got 2 pumps and 2 set's of pad waterers hooked up in it ,
I hear'd that it still rains some where (maybe KS ?)

Here in central Texas its been 100 or better form some time.
I tell you the key to stay cool.I found a cool running creek.
Jump and stay till about 6 pm so nice.
well time to get wet later guys :) :) :)

I used to think the same way but am very glad I changed the way I think :)

I like to work in a dry, 72-75 deg. shop and all this with a $200 window unit, 12 years ago :D
