A Different Perspective On "Camp Knives"

A lot of us, myself included, think of "camp knives" as a heavy duty, do everything, chopper type knife. One of our wiser members, more experienced than I am, recently contacted me to make some knives for his children for Christmas. He said they would be used while camping, I believe he called them "sandwich knives." He mentioned that they would be used for normal activities like slicing salami or cheese, and wanted them to have a long enough blade to reach the bottom of jars. We decided on knives of 3/32" stock, with blades 5" long, overall length of 9 1/4". The 2 in purpleheart are for the girls, the zebrawood is for a boy.

This one is in rosewood, that I think would be great for deer hunting. It`s for a member in Hawaii.

Very nice John. Those look very handy for the kitchen. Diamensions look spot on too.

That clip point is a neat looking blade. I think that would make an excellent deer knife as well. Which BTW firearms season starts Sat here!!

very nice looking knives John. 3/32" thick steel is just great for what they are wanting to use them for.

Man I like those:D. Gonna be tough to give those to the kids.;)

I wanted knives that they could use at home or out camping. Being from JK, I know they can hand these down to their kids. Johns knives are made to last. They are going to love Santa.

Great looking knives in a pratical design. I have gotten stuff on the handles of knives many times because the blade wouldn't reach the bottom of a jar.

Nice looking blades there. I always admire any design that tries to buck the trend for legitimate reasons not just for looks or to be gimmicky.

Reminds me a little of the Green River knife by Nowill. Less pointy and better handle, no swedge and no useless serrations so a far cleaner more functional look for sure.

John, you make some Hansom knives.
They just have a working knife look to them.

I like the way he thinks. My next blade from you will probably be 3/32. I like the longer reach as well.

Good stuff john!
