I made dagger from a file with a bone handle I found in the woods years ago when I was in high school. I super glued the tang into the bone. It looks really good for a first knife but now I know a lot more and would like to take it apart and make it a little bit preatier and heat treatthe blade. Does anyone know how I can get the bone off with out ruining it? The bone is too nice and unique to ruin. Thanks

Since you are goint to HT the blade, just heat it gently with a torch until the handle comes off. You don't have to get it that hot.

Thanks, as simple as that is it just never occured to me to do it that way without burning the handle. All I could ever come up with is using a blow drier to heat the handle but that just wouldn't get hot enough.

Nailpolish remover (acetone) disolves super glue ,not sure what it will do to the bone but some knife maker super glue the scales to shape them then remove them to finish off the knife before riveting the scales back on.

he amount of expansion at 300F is negligible. For it to be a problem, the fit on the bone would have to be extremely tight, and you would have to be heating the blade much higher than the temperature the CA breaks down at, (and the bone would expand, too).
