This one was a challenge but I think it turned out pretty well. A dual carry (vertical and horizontal carry) with a firesteel. The Brian Andrews knife was thick handled and wide bladed - it made for an interesting set of parameters to make a sheath that looked nice but also worked. I hope the customer is happy.

Thoughts are always welcome.

I have an addition to this sheath that I will post this evening when it finished drying.

WOW, that's a great looking sheath! Really slick way to incorporate horizontal and vertical carry.

Woooo that is sharp!! I likey!

Tal, thanks very much bro! I'll drop you a PM with a shipping address.

Can't wait to get it!!

Hey Talfuchre, I have the same type of horizontal/vertical belt attachment on a sheath for my Bravo-1 that Rainwalker made for me. I think it's one of the best methods as it really makes the knife hug the body in the vertical mode and is very secure (doesn't flop) in the horizontal mode. My only recommendation, is to make sure what size of belt the end user is using...I can use my sheath with my Liger belt, but my Rigger's belt is just too thick. It may loosen up a bit, but if anybody is planning on getting a sheath like this, be specific and maybe even send you belt in for a measurement.

I'd really like to see the other attachment addition! Looks great BTW...I may have to shoot you an email;)

That is exactly the same with this Rock - you have to make the sheath very oversized to fit a full two inch belt - this accomodates a 1.5 inch belt both ways.

I will post the other attachment in a few minutes.

I concur with Rock's statement. I prefer by far the way this type of setup hugs the body compared to a fold over loop. It can be a bit less forgiving of belt size though as Rock mentioned.

T - I think this is your best looking one yet. Part of it is how the blade shape of that knife works with this style. The knife remains nicely centered in the sheath, even the point almost resting center of the square. I really like how the stitching and wet forming conform to the blades shape and give you a perspective of what the knife looks like. Great stuff!

I hope this is not a let down - I simply added this little strap to carry in the middle of the back - I want it to be tight.

I do not have the correct hardware - so the user will have to make a small trip to the hardware store. ;)

It looks a little darker in the pics - it is not totally dry from the Tan Kote.

Wow. I love it. I am a fan of horizontal carry, just not in the back. ( I can't seem to sheath the knife after use!)

That's actually a pretty good idea Talfuchre! When you make mine;) I'd like to see the vert/horiz belt loop a little lower and a simple D-ring attached for the use of a removable belt loop extender. I like wearing the knife with me at all times, but high ride or belt-mounted horizontal carry is pretty uncomfortable with a pack's hip belt. I don't mind a 3-4" drop loop extender, but once in camp and for day hikes, I like to mount the knife directly to the belt for easy access and even easier to re-sheath.

I see no type of retention strap, so I'm assuming (based on the type of knife design) that the mould is pretty sturdy...as this one looks. I've used elastic shock cord as a lanyard and had a piece long enough to stretch over my firesteel to keep the knife if (just in case) when climbing or boating. Sure, it takes a little longer to extract, but it's only used when current activities might jar it loose.

I'm really digging your work Talfuchre!

Jason just a another layer of leather to each area the you are going to sew at the corners and that will take care of the tight fit. I started doing that on my sheaths. It made all difference when I started doing that. Now I can wear thicker belts.

Thanks Rock,

The customer did not want a retention strap - this one is a little tough to get back in - but it will break in. I find if you pinch the sheath it fits a lot easier.

That looks sweet. Another great job TF! Let me know when the Survivor arrives so we can discuss something similar for that one, though that blade might be a little large.
