BULLSHIT!!

I knocked my MEAN!!!!er off my workbench and it stabbed me in the leg just above the ankle puncturing an artery and painting my basement workshop a lovely shade of crimson. An ambulance ride, 3 Stitches on the surface, 2 below and some glueish stuff on the artery and I am right as rain. I lost a grand total of 580cc's of blood at the scene and another 200 in the ambulance, but most of what is all over my basement got cleaned up. Unfortunately I didn't think to take pictures while performing first aid on myself or during cleanup, so you guys only get the photo's post-cleanup.

Some of the mess that just wouldn't get clean!

One of the many puddles (now dried) with my very large hand for a size comparison!

A photo of my stitched up leg. I really wish I got one of the gaping hole (it was about 1 1/4 inches deep) or awesome spurts but I was too busy covering the wound with my hands to grab the camera.

Yikes!!!

I think you win the award for "blessing" your Meaner.

Glad you were able to get some prompt medical attention.

holy cow you need to post in the busse bite thread
glad you made it those artery wounds are super leathal
stay well and stay sharp;)

man im sorry to hear about your little oops with INFI...you better watch out next time its been known to bite! im glad everything is alright though, because im sure it could have been a lot worse

Glad you're OK. Remember, though, next time it's camera first, first aid second. ;)

Don't worry guys, the Meaner is OK! Although I am now concerned that it may have acquired a taste for blood. Also, it really didn't hurt that much, sharp knives slice really cleanly.

Yes, now it will want to taste blood every time it is unsheathed. If it doesn't, it will bite you again.

When I read your title - this is just what I was thinking

"Ya - unless you drop it on your foot"

And then I read the rest of the story. Sorry about your donation of blood - But I do not know how many times one of my Busses slipped out of a sheath I was holding or was knocked off my work bench and I jumped back - fearing what would happen. I half reach out sometimes - only to pull back asap! I think I have chipped my cement floor a couple of times - but no damage to the blade [or me yet] - amazing :)

Thanks for the reminder of what can happen and the pics - And sorry about your pain

.

ouch ...Have to say I haven't been bitten yet by the INFI but I'm sure my time will come.

Honestly, it was a very cool experience, I have heard stories about arterial bleeding, but I never believed that it would spray quite so far as the myths state. In reality it was like having a supersoaker blasting red kool-aid all over the place. The best part was when the paramedics removed my gauze to see if the bleeding really was arterial. The spray almost hit one of them in the leg!

just send it to me my wife works at the hospital i'll take the chance for you. and down that low the pressure of your blood would and does make it more dangreous. just pm me if it looks at you the wrong way;)

Ouch, glad you are ok. I know your pain, I still have the scar on my palm from the six stiches I got in May stupidly trying to catch a knife I had dropped. Be thankful it wasn't worse and take a lesson, that's what I did.

Wow! Close call there, glad to hear you came out all right! After cleaning that Meaner, you should start using it as a steak knife. Make it forget about human blood, lol. By the way, for those blood stains on the floor that won't quite scrub away, try pouring some hydrogen peroxide on 'em then scrub. I've used it a few times to get blood off of clothing after a few Busse related incidents. Lets say I no longer toss knives up and see how many times I can get them to spin before catching them handle first.lol :D

Thanks for the pics... Sorry to hear about the "incident"! Glad to hear that there is no permanant damage to either of you!

-Mike

I had a similar situation happen with my ankle coming in contact with a freshly sharpened FBM.....similar scenario but with more blood and more stiches:thumbup:.

You know you just forget to pick up the camera when that stuff happens.:p

I once cut my left hand ring finger on the top between the 2nd and 3rd knuckle. It was only about 1/2" long, but cut a small artery. I applied pressure, and went to the ER. They removed my dressing, the bleeding had stopped. I told them about the tendon and the artery(I could see in the wound clearly when it happened). The Doc called in a student and told her to take care of me, as it was not "bad" enough for him. When she started to irrigate and clean the wound, you guessed it, the little ol' artery started spraying all across the room, about 10ft or so. It sprayed her down, she almost feinted, and the Doc had to come back in and finish up. Great fun!

Having severed my popliteal artery I can tell you there is nothing like the sight of your own blood spurting from your body. Glad you are OK.
