So I've been using my 77 at work for cutting up fruit and the patina seems to change weekly. It's been white-flesh peaches for a few days and today I noticed what looks like a polar bear swimming show up on my blade.

Maybe you'll see it, maybe not. Now that I've seen it I can't see anything else, it appears to be intentionally painted on.

Have you ever had a recognizable shape show up in patina?

And a bit closer:

I had what looks like 3 P's show up in this one

Yep, that's a polar bear.
I've got a pretty distinct heart shape on my ebony TC Barlow. The knife and patina showed up around the same time he died, so I like to think the two are linked.

Pareidolia is when you recognize familiar patterns from anything you see.
I definitely see the bear face...very nice idea posting here our patina artworks ;)

Not on a blade, but on the back of this spider I took a photo of a long time ago, looks like a face screaming and did remind me also of Edvard Munch painting "The Scream" ;)

but on yours, first thing I thought was a dog's face

Cool!

I see a bear too.

It does indeed look like a polar bear, Macchina.

I had a similar experience. After I cut cheese with this one, a patina formed with a face that resembles Slim Pickens.

Only time it happened to me, it turned out the knife was haunted. The only way to exorcise the ghost was to give the knife to the first person who mentioned the haunting.

That's true, scrteened porch. I bet it is the same thing with the op's knife. Since I'm the first one that mentioned that HIS knife is haunted, the heavy burden of helping the trapped spirits to move on would fall to me,I suppose. Well, not being one to shirk my duties, I (reluctantly) accept.

You folks are scaring me!
;)
:D
:D

We are nice people - don't be afraid!

Here is a hot cup of coffee or hot tea over the miles. I even have an apple turnover for you and yours.

There, there, don't you feel better now?

He still has a bear on his blade! LOL
