A father's day gift to your wife & kids

The late Charlie Askins, confronted with someone trying to take his life, didn't worry so much about himself.

Rather he acknowleged the perpetrator as someone who wanted to:

1) make his kids orphans and;

2) make his wife a widow.

3) That the guy was trying to kill him was about third place in Askins priority to stay alive.

I ain't never been there, but it seems to move my reactions from the passisve "just staying alive" to the active "It's a man's duty to remove" a rattlesnake in the middle of a hiking trail that could hurt someone else if not dealt with now. To maikin' it my duty to everyone to act now.

Just musin' a bit.

Rusty,

They use similar motivational type thinking processes to try to help law enforcement officers keep their will to survive following being injured in a shootout.

You'd be surprised (or maybe not) how much the will to live can make a difference in the outcome of such a trauma.

Anyway, hopefully none of the good folks who make up these forums will ever have to visit or revisit anything like that.

After my recent surgery in the hospital a nurse told me I was doing much better than they expected me to do. She asked me if I had an explanation to offer. I said, "I'm a hardheaded SOB and I've decided I am not yet ready to die." The nurse said, "here we call that a very strong will to live." And chuckled. I think it works in any circumstance.

If you take a look at the recent BirGorkha pix I posted these are a few of the people who depend on me heavily and these are also the people who quit work so they could pray full time for my recovery. Pradeep even went to Manakamana to remind her that I had been there and that she should spare me because of the devotion I showed. Knowing that maybe 125 people depend on you for food and shelter is a very strong motivation to keep going. Anyway, prayers or motivation or both -- it seems to have worked so far.

And while I'm at it I want to thank once again all those here who threw up some good vibrations for me when I needed all the help I could get. I've sent profuse thanks to the men and families of BirGorkha.
