A favorite-Case Small Texas Jack

Yes I like this pattern, particularly useful is the modified Pen blade, wish more knives had this.

Only thing is, I just CANNOT get the cv version sharp! The stainless no problem, and cv is usually an easy steel to sharpen, I'm wondering if there is something actually wrong with the steel on my example?

Thanks, Will

I like the Small Texas Jack I actually got two of them. Here's the one I carry most of the time. I have to make myself not carry it just to give others some pocket time, but this is my 90% of the time carry.

Here's the other, currently resting in its box:

I even picked up the same pattern in stainless steel and did a little dye job on the handles to make it look like what I wanted:

Anyone know when Case starting using this modified pen blade? Do they use it on any of their other knives?

jwren,

I think some of their medium stockman models use the same pen blade.

jc57,

That dye job turned out great. I think your knife may be the one I saw that gave me the idea to try and dye my own scales.

It's getting real hard to resist buying another one now..

The Case Texas Jack is definitely on my list for Case Knives that I am interested in. When I do decide to venture into the world of Case knives, I will be hard pressed to choose between the Case CV Texas Jack, the CV Sway Back Jack, and the medium or Large CV Stockman (the peanut and mini trappers in CV are on the list too but they are more of an after thought).

The black synthetic medium Jack has been my favorite since I traded for it in April. If it had CV steel it would be even better. Traded into a yellow Peanut today and I am thinking it is just not for me. Looking very hard at the amber bone Texas Jack with CV steel. The medium Jack does not have half-stops, is it the same for the Texas Jack?

No half stops on the Case '032 patterns, which includes Small Texas Jack, Medium Jack, and Medium Stockman patterns based on that pattern number.

The 032 pattern is very close to ideal for me. I have a love affair with the mni copperhead that I have to carry the most, but the Case 032 Texas jack is really close to the top of the heap for me.

These are the ones I have now with the possible exception of the last one (I have one of these just not sure this is a photo of it).

TLARbb,

That's a fine looking olive bone jack you have there. That's one of the ones I'm always keeping my eyes open for.

I was interested that the fit&finish on my stainless Olive Bone version is far better than on the cv Amber Bone. No blade droop, spine lines up with the backspring, crisper finish on the ends of the springs, zero gaps. And I can get an edge on it..... But why? Maybe CASE is using newer equipment on the stainless ones?
