This wood has to be one of my all time favorites. Super hard stuff that polishes up beautifully. This came from an unusual burl slab that was cut back in the 40s. We got lucky when a lady called wanting to sell us this slab that she had inherited. This is the hardest and heaviest redwood I have ever seen. One of the forum members calculated the density at .85.

It will require some extra work though. There will be open eyes and voids that you will need to fill with CA glue or epoxy. I think the dramatic results are more than worth the extra work involved.

The photos of the blocks show both faces wiped with a damp cloth so you can get an idea how it will look finished. The photos of the scales were taken dry. When you see ones you want, Just post "I'll take #s ....." and I will mark them sold for you. That way nobody else can buy the ones you want out from under you.

US shipping is $2.50 each or $10 for as many will fit into a flat rate box.

i saw the block phillp dobson got, WOW!
do you have or can cut more like 652?

Yes, Phillip got a real nice piece. He has been a good friend since my beginning here on the forum so I owed him a favor.

I will have to look around to see what untrimmed pieces I have that can be cut into blocks.

Only one set of scales left.

Looks like everyone who bought these were ones who already have some. I watched a lot of others look but not buy. Guess they didn't know what they were passing up.

And the rest of us got here too late :(. I thought you said you said you cut it all up, and sold the private stash already. Somehow we keep seeing drips and drabs without warning ;)

Man LA really went to town on this batch.

My boss gives me a hard time about how I organize the wood I am cutting for blocks and scales. I use the "Pile File" system. When I move the piles around I find stuff I didn't know I still had. This is why nobody ever sees photos of my work shop.

Mike Turner has been here so he knows how I climb over big piles to get to the stuff I am looking for. It can be scary but last time he was here with his wife they just started climbing through my mess to find some of the hidden treasures.

I found 2 small boxes of cut offs and untrimmed pieces of this stuff that I will see if I can get some more good blocks and scales. Who Knows what I'll find?

Man... 653 is stunning. :eek::D

Los Angeles - I have a good, healthy kidney if you fancy a bit of bartering. :p

Mark - I'm always looking for that sort of "sunrise" pattern in a block. You know if there just happens to be somthing layin' 'round.

Gorgeous wood as always.

Sorry to be such a hog, folks. I've got very big plans for this old redwood stuff, and even have a gallery that might be willing to show my work. It's the most daring project I've done since 1999 when I redesigned and constructed a full-scale chess set from solid sterling silver.

My only regret was that I failed to get a 12x24 slab of the exhibition grade stuff that mark was selling. Still need a slab and then I need about 6 months and a couple grand to put it all together.

Funny you should say that.
Here are a few photos of some of that stuff I keep moving out of my way.
This one is about 4 foot x 5 foot.

These are a few billets I cut a while back and never got around to listing for sale.

And this 9 foot slab is the other redwood slab from the forties. About 4 foot wide. I haven't been able to talk my boss into letting me cut this one yet. Not as hard as the other stuff, still way harder and denser than normal redwood burl, more like maple hardness.

Los Angeles - Now worries mate. Just some friendly ribbing fueled by extreme jealousy... that's all.

Mark - You should be getting a call from this part of the world about one of those burl slabs. Hope it goes well.
