Here is a pic of my Rinaldi collection. The latest addition, at the top, is another version of his Armageddon, this time made from 3/16" D2. I didn't want any re-curve in this blade and Trace was more than happy to oblige. The blade shows up dark in the picture, but is, in fact, a very nice satin finish. The other three knives, all in Talonite, are, in descending order, an Armageddon, a Warhawk, and an L.E.O. Trace's work is impeccable and he is very much able to work to your desires. If you haven't tried one of his blades, you should.

I especially like the top two; love them big users!

What is the pro vs. con of the top two?

The recurve looks more pronounced on this knife then the one on his web-site. Is this just an illusion in the picure The straight knife reminds me a lot of the original Busse Battle Mistress - was that part of the inspiration behind the comission of this knife? How does the Talonite hold up in a knife that large?

Thanks!

Stay Sharp,
Sid

p.s. Sorry about the rambling questions - been a very long week/weekend.

To answer your questions, Sid.
The amount of the recurve on the Talonite Armageddon surprised me also. I didn't expect nearly that much after viewing the one on Trace's web site. The only inspiration I gave Trace when I ordered the Second Armageddon was to leave out the recurve. It's not that it adversely affects the cutting, but I have a fit sharpening a recurved blade. I really expected the D2 version to look more like the Talonite, but I didn't specify that when I ordered it. I like to let makers run with their own ideas. Your guess is as good as mine as to how the Talonite Armageddon holds up under useage. I ordered this knife when Talonite first came on the scene and Rob Simonich said it would hold up ok under hard chopping if the edge was done right. I'm sure Rob and Trace did some talking before the knife was made, because this blade has a very wide angle at the edge, which should allow it to hold up ok. I'll never know, 'cause I never intended to use it anyway, just liked the looks. I'm sure this didn't answer your questions, but it's all I have. Trace or Rob could probably answer you better.

Thanks HDCharlie!

I really like Trace's work. I love my TTKK and have considered getting a knife like your top one. Guess I should give him a call

WOW funny how that satin finish looks like a black coating. Glad to see your non recurved Armageddon made it safe and sound Charlie.
I made Charlies Talonite Armageddon not too long after I first started making that design, it has changed slightly in the handle but the blade is still pretty much the same as the profile I use now.
I find on large blades the sweeping recurve isnt all that hard to sharpen, especially if you use the narrow DMT's. Recurved blades do seem to have a bit more of a "sweet spot" and really like to chop. The non curved version I made for Charlie feels very light and lively with the use of 3/16" stock, and came out screaming sharp.. I dont think it will be lacking in the chopping arena either.
Ron Hood will be sporting around an Armageddon with a small ride-along dropped point for his upcoming Woodmaster 11 video. Should be interesting to see him put it through its paces in the Idaho "Outback", 2 weeks with nothing but knives to survive with can seperate the boys from the men REAL quick...
Will I be going?? SHeah RIGHT!!!:-)
Anayway great to hear from you guys Sid, Chad, Charlie, Kevin, etc.. Glad to see those knives are still hard at work for you guys..

Take Care
