A Few Camping Pics (Pic Heavy)

Nice shots... I too am thinking about ordering one of those Gransfors-Bruks axes!

Skunk, what can I say? Vicki has excellent taste in cutting implements.

You can't go wrong with a GB axe or hatchet. The Wetterlings are cheaper, but the GBs have better finished heads, and are, to me at least, more pleasing to the eye. When you hold one, you know that whoever made this thing knew what the heck they were doing. Kind of like holding a Busse in that regard.

Since the folks at GB have been at it since 1902, they have had a little practice.

I didn't use the axe much though. I took some wood from the tree that came down out back, and most of the splitting was done with the FBM SE and a baton stick. The Small Forest Axe was great for driving in tent stakes though. :D

There, I just ordered a Wildlife Hatchet and a Mini Forest axe from Lee Valley Tools, hopefully waiting for me when I get back to Canada on Thursday!

I'm waiting on The Benchmark to give me a call about the one I ordered a little over a week ago

My wife, however, managed to cook a four-star breakfast on just a little MSR SimmerLite backpacking stove. What a trooper.

Those MSR's are great, I've got a Dragon Fly, Pocket Rocket, and two Whisperlite Internationals. I especially like the Whisperlite's as they'll burn just about anything (JetA, JetB, AvGas80, diesel, gasoline, naptha...); I always have one in my helicopter drop-pack.

Awesome pics, Guyoink!!

Got enough pepper on dem eggs? :D

Aaaahhh... Rock Island. We used to go playboating around there. I believe Eric Jackson (retired whitewater kayaking competitor) moved there and built a small operation a few years back.

Good memories... :)

That's what the base of the falls can look like - they've held several competitions there.

Yeah, if I ever figure on going somewhere *really* remote, that's the stove I'm taking with me. Right now, I just hike with the SimmerLite and pack a cannister of white gas. But those Internationals are pretty versatile, from what I've read.

My wife did let grits overflow into my stove as she was finishing up the breakfast, so I've got to dis-assemble and clean it today. The grits were worth it though.

Nice pics Guyon:thumbup:

I'll be sure to post some of mine from Yoasmite in November (16-18).

Mine will -in part- be from the bar at the Ahwahnee Hotel:thumbup: Any other HOGS going to make that trip?

Tony, you climbing Half Dome again?

Might be a little chilly in November. Take a jacket.

JetB and diesel both smoke a fair bit when first lit, although JetB has a slightly higher flashpoint so it lights a bit easier, both leave a nice black coating on your pot. Gasoline has too many additives so I never use it, white gas (naptha) definitely burns the cleanest and given the choice I would always use this....
