More pics we need more pics:D Ah if only I was a traveler, looks like a great time was had by all.

sweet - I just post pics...lcs37 would be great for the commentary

Don't know if I can do it justice, but will try.............Should I err, please feel free to correct. Wish the pics were numbered. Hmmmm, pics seem to be in reverse below the posting I am now on, compared to the original posting, MAYBE, my word pic will suffice.

* Josh was kind enough to be used as an opponent several times. Josh lying flat on floor, Duvon getting ready to neutralize him to the next dimension. Duvon is demonstrating one of the 'zones' in the chest area and I believe, the beginning of 'extraction/ Rend (push), rotate (pull) run (pry)

*L to R Pala, Duvon, Uncle...........Duvon presenting Uncle with a Bando shirt.

*L to R Pala, Duvon, Lama Jigme Duvon listening to a question/comment from conferees. His answers were always very informative.

* The other four pics of Duvon in action demonstrating different stances, Offensive Techiques, striking methods, defensive techniques, defined in the handout. I would have to refer to my notes, study handout and try to define specifically each pic, but hopefully you get the general idea.

Duvon is FAST and practiced. At my age, I would never be a martial arts expert 'wannabe'. HOWEVER, the moves, practiced at least an hour a day, would sure stretch out the muscles for an old guy. The older we get the more we need to stretch and keep the old bod going.
:)

The handout "Combat Training With the Khukuri" just identifies the very, very simplified basics. 4 pages . Would leave it to the experts , if that could be somehow put in the forum.

Good stuff and many thanks. Yangdu tried to lock up shop and in closing the computer lost about 1/2 of the pix I took with my new DC. Still need to practice more but the video came out good.

You lost the pic of me in my HI Shirt?

Excuse me

What kind of khukuri is Duvan using?

What length?

How tall is Duvan?

How strong is Duvan comparatively for his height? Considering his armstrength must matter for his choice of khukuri.

I am scouting for a new khukuri for this purpose you see.

ooh, this could start multiple threads! What other cool little extras didja konvention - goers score, besides memories, I mean?

This doc could be scanned or photographed. Heck, someone xerox it and mail it to me, I'll transcribe it, being an out of work writer it'd help me keep my chops up.

I always thot Duvon was into the BAS for MA. Looks sorta like an AK in the pic, or some WWII hybrid?

Keith

Duvon prefers and uses the 18" WWII model and this is the one he almost "insists" his students use.

Duvon is a 6th degree black belt with 20+ years in martial arts and just a hell of a guy. Been an HI nephew for a dozen+ years.
He has entered the Monk system of Bando at this stage of his life -- khukuris, kick boxing, agression are history now. He teaches but no longer practices or competes.

The Bando Monk system is the end result of most martial arts worth their salt. Meditation, yoga, spiritual pursuits are now foremost. In the Bando Monk system a monk can use his staff, sash, and a rope with rocks or knots at each end (I call it the Bando bolo) for defensive purposes only. The Monk system is the manifestation of the realization that there are more important pursuits in life than killing, maiming or simply beating the $hit out of people.

Yes, very true, well said.;)

The khukuri being used in the picture is a WWII made by Sher. Duvon used one of the WWII's that Uncle Bill had on the table. I was looking at it before the demonstration. It was back on the table after the demonstration. It is now sitting in front of me:D. I was pretty sure I snagged it, and the pictures confirm it. I looked at all the WWII's that Bill had there, But I liked this one the best. Duvon gave an excellent demonstration. The way he presented the information was great. I felt like I went to a seminar on the use of the khukuri as a weapon. I learned a lot. I will probably be showing this material to the students at the Dojo, and show them the video when it is available. He is great to talk to also, knows alot of stuff. Hope I can meet him again.

I'm working on getting the tape into VCR format today.

Everybody at the convention was "great guy" category. Duvon was one of many but the guy who knew most about using the khukuri as a weapon. But I'll bet he can't chop a car up any better than Cliff Stamp! ;)

Duvon is not a big person-- I would say he is around 5'10" with an average to slight build. He's pretty strong though-- I have bruises on my ribs from the demonstrations.

I have a bunch of pics to post...I am only allowed 500 megabytes a month and I am real close to that now so I'll have to wait till April 1st to post up the others unless I can send them to somebody else to host and post up?
