Thought I'd drop in and get y'alls' opinion on a few designs I've drawn up in my spare time. I know this isn't necessarily the right board to post this, but I know several of y'all were interested in my other designs, and these are intended for Wilderness & Survival use. I'm buying up the necessary equipment to try my hand at making a couple of these soon. :D Constructive criticism would be great, regarding the designs. Also, if any of these too closely resemble other makers' work please let me know.

1.) This one is one I drew a good while back. I'm thinking hollow ground, CPM154 possibly, with an ironwood or even rosewood or cocobolo handle. Likely a partial tang, with stainless steel pins. Dimensions: 4 1/4" blade, 5/32" thick, 8 3/4" overall.

2.) This is actually a design I came up with for my sister, at her request. Made to her specifications, so don't be too hard on me on this one. Oh, flat ground. Dimensions: 4" blade, 5/32" thick, 8" overall. (My sister has really small hands.)

3.) A design I thought would be a good starting point in knifemaking, this will most likely be the first one I attempt to make. Slab handled, as with the above knife, 1095 is looking good for this one. Dimensions: 3 1/4" blade, 1/8" thick, 6 5/8" overall.

4.) This one I think is inspired a lot by some of Benchmade's folders. Slab handles, probably 1/8", maybe D2 or M2, in my dreams. Dimensions: 4" blade, 1/8" thick, 8" overall.

5.) Now this one I'm kinda proud of. The first wharncliffe design I've ever tried to draw, I think it turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. The handle is inspired partially by the Griptilian. Dimensions: 3 1/2" blade, 1/8" thick, 7" overall.

6.) With this design, I had originally planned for almost a Kabar Warthog-esque look, but it wound more closely resembling a Ranger RD6. Not too sure if I like the way it turned out. I may pull this one. Dimensions: 4 7/8" (Say 5".) blade, 5/32"-3/16" thick, 9" overall.

I look forward to your comments, thanks in advance! Also, you can click on any of the pics for a closer look.

(P.S.: All knife designs are drawn on standard graph paper, 1/4" squares.)

very nice, seems we have similar influences. i've been doin the same thing myself and just last night i drew one up that's very similar to your #3 only an extra 1.5" on the blade and a much smaller, straight paracord handle like the pry bar pictured in my mora thread. same choice of steel, thickness, point, grind, and i usually use jimping in my designs but skipped it this time, just as you did. there's a matchin 2.5" blade to go with it.

here are a few i drew a while back, not really survival oriented, just pretty lookin.

Fonly, untamed, Mike, thanks for the comments!

Magnum, that top knife is downright gorgeous.Smooth, flowing lines, just beautiful. The middle one almost reminds me of one I did awhile back:

Morimotom, thank you. Fedaykincmndr, thanks, and we'll see. ;) With luck, I'll be able to sell me a few to pay for the equipment to make more.

I gotta say, I'm partial to number 2, except with maybe more of a drop point. But it looks very ergonomical and practical.

Excellent design guys!!!! I'd love to see ALL of them come into production nhopefully at a reasonable price. I would have never imagined a WSK Karambit but those look cool.

I like #3. The edge comes right down to the handle which will allow a lot of power cutting in that area. No frills. I like!

You have some nice designs. I always like breaking out the graph paper and putting some designs down.

Nice designs Josh!

I very much like #3 and #6.
I like thick durable tips that wont break.

Try a large blade for chopping. I have been meaning to design a SAR knife with a slight recurve, tip heavy and a nice belly in the 7-8 inch range with a nice choil for choking up.

I like non or slightly stainless. Plain ole 1095 is fine with a good differential heat treat and coating.

Make sure they are made of thick stock you can beat and pry on then sell me one haha.

Listen to me I am placing my orders already LMAO.;)

I like the #3 something about a clean looking knife makes it look better and stronger. I also like the #5 i got a kitchen knife that looks like that and its the first knife everyone goes for. Why the #5 type of a knife is not as popular??? are there any weakneses in the point that is facing down???

From an industrial design point of view, I love most of your designs. The lines are absolutely beautiful.

It didn't run all the way through the family, though, 'cause I didn't dig the one your sis directed you on at all. It looks like it will work, but it's not pretty like yours!

Excellent! I especially love number 2 and number 6. You posted number 2 here before haven't you? (checking "my documents"), Yup looks the same design but you modified it slightly. The older version was more like a spearpoint. Either way they are all very very cool!
:)
