A Few Hard Decisions Have Been Made

I know I'm not visibly around here much anymore John, (life has a tendency to get in the way!) I have been a loyal fan and customer since my first JK (Pocket Kephart in Lacewood) and still carry it. I'm behind you and support you 100% doors open or doors closed. You are an excellent knifemaker, top notch to deal with, and a great guy to boot. I'm proud of all my JK knives and proud to be a supporter, customer and friend. Keep fighting the good fight, but do what you need to do.

I'm sorry to hear of this. I haven't been able to get a JK yet, but I am hopeful by the time I can buy one you will still be making them. Hopefully orders pick up.

I am one that is sorry to hear this as well. I do not have any of your knives but have been lusting over them for the past year, even though I do not post. I have had a rough time this past year and a half with the lack of a job but all has turned around jobwise and now we are buying a house. I have been wanting to get my hands on one of those fixed pocket blades and now one of your pocket knives. I will still have to wait but hopefully not as long, just until we move in and I can save.

I`m going to do my best to stay afloat. I`ve gotten a few more orders, and the black linerlock sold, so I`m happy. I`m just hoping it keeps up.

Sent you a PM with specs for a Kephart I want to order.

And I'll be sending a PM with specs for a Kentucky Woodsman using stabilized walnut scales that I just picked up from Burl Source. Of course this order is contingent on how my phone interview goes this Tuesday, if it goes well I'll be on the road to Arizona again, possibly by Wednesday.

Hang in there John. Don't close the shop. Even if you have to get a job, you should still continue to make knives on the side. There are plenty of successful knifemakers who don't do it full time. Good luck to you.

Hang in there, things will get better. You make a high quality product that people appreciate. There will always be a market for that.

Hey John, Hope it doesn't go this way, I have only your knives for all my bushcraft play! your knive are the best! Only surpassed by how great you are to deal with. haven't stopped by in a while, didn't have the money and didn't want to be tempted! Hang in there buddy!

John, I just read the post made by your wife. Don't stop making knives. This is always a slow time of year. Stay positive and keep at it. There will always be highs and lows in this business just like most businesses. You have a good thing going. Don't let a slow down get to you.

I agree.
Take it from two of "the greats!"

My how times have changed.
I'm sure glad you've been able to keep the shop open John.
4 months of orders waiting to be built ain't bad.
Congrats John & thank you Connie for talking John out of closing up the shop.

John,
I'm just glad I found out about your knives in the forum and your many supporters due to the quality of your work and your qualities as a person. I want to look forward to the future with plenty more of JK handmade blades available.
I'm positive things will improve.

Even though things look good right now, orders coming in have really dropped off. Like The Boss says, " Take it one day at a time, it will get better." I try not to panic, but it`s not always easy.

orders have probably dropped off simply because your already 4 months out. you make a great knife and it's worth waiting for but many folks are the I need and and want it now. you have 4 months of orders I would say your business is hanging in there :)

This is the Pack Knife. 6" overall with a 2 3/4" x 1/8" blade. I could do these for $100 + $5 shipping.

Hi John, I am sorry to hear about the slow-down in business too. I hope that you are not forced to quit making knives. If you end up making a batch of Pack Knives, put me down for one! (email sent).
