Hi Everyone!

First off I would like to thank my Brother Caleb for the great pictures he has been doing for me, four of which are on this thread. Thanks Caleb!!!

It's been a while since I have shown anything so I though I would show you these four knives I've made within the last month or so.

First is a hunter. The 5 1/2" blade is forged from 5160. The handle is of Desert Ironwood and the fittings are of gun blued steel using caustic salts and there are two silicon bronze spacers. The handle is 4 1/2" long. I like the way the black, bronze and Ironwood go together on this knife.

The next knife is a "Stars and Stripes" Hunter. Stars because of the blade and Stripes because of the Tiger Stripe Maple. This past Veterans day my family and I hosted a Hammer-in for our local Homeschooling group. We had many things planed for the day including a Powder Mosaic forging demo that I did, a Soap making demo by my Mom and a demo on how to make a propane forge by my Dad. We also had a Tomahawk throwing contest and a Cutting Competition. I made a competition knife and gave it to the winner of the cutting competition. We invited two friends of mine to come and do demos. One is a Blacksmith/Knifemaker on the side, he brought a coal forge and forged out a few blades, he also let people have a try at it. The other friend that came did a demo on cleaning and tanning deer hide. We had a very good turn out with about 150 people that came, many of those being their kids. This was the second year we did this and we might do it again next year. This was a knife I gave away for the Barbecue cook-of we had. The handle is Tiger Stripe Maple and the blade is forged from 1080, 1095, Pure Nickel and 4800E Powder. This is the first powder mosaic I have made. During my demo I made another powder mosaic and it came out better than I anticipated with less distortion than the first. (I'll have to make a knife out of it sometime) I went with the "Stars and Stripes" theme because I thought it would go good with Veterans day which was the day of the Hammer-in.

The third knife is a Miniature I made that will be going to Alaska. The 2" blade is forged from 90 degree bias "W" ladder pattern damascus. The handle is of Alaskan Mammoth Ivory and is 2" long. The Fittings are of 416 Stainless Steel. I made the sheath to clip on your pocket with the sheath being inside your pocket.

And last for tonight is a Slip-Joint Folder. The blade is 2 3/4" and is forged from 1080 and 15N20 in 90 degree bias "W" Ladder Pattern Damascus. The bolsters and backspring are forged from the same pattern damascus as the blade. The handle scales are of Alaskan Mammoth Ivory. The screws have been heat colored. The 30 Thousandths thick Stainless Steel liners have "Explosion" pattern File-work on them. This is the second slip-joint folder I've made.

Kyle, they are all beautiful, but the first is my favorite. The materials and colors blend well. Your public service with the hammer-in is much appreciated. Great job!

Paul

Thanks Kyle. The treatment looked different. Check your PM inbox. :) Had a few random questions.

Guys, I actually had a dream recently that Kyle made me a knife. I woke up very happy for about three seconds and then the pain set in..

all look very nice Kyle but my favorite also, is the first hunter. Like you, I am impressed at how all the colors come together. Congrats to the fine photography being done by Caleb also.

All outstanding knives, however both hunters really catch my eye.

The first is very elegant and as others have stated, the color contrast between the dark Ironwood, bluing and silicon bronze really creates a very nice effect. You did a very nice job of rolling/contouring the ironwood into the fittings. Kyle actually offered this piece for sale off his website several weeks ago. Bet someone was happy.

I love the blade profile on the second hunter, especially the long clip. The damascus looks very well executed and I like the subtle stippling.

I have said this before, but it's amazing how far Kyle has come with his handles in a relatively short time.

New engraver? microscope? Oh, I can hardly wait.

man Kyle, your hands are HUGE!;)

that first hunter is my favorite, just spot on.

Terrific work all around. I think that carbon steel hunter approaches the sublime. And that damascus slipjoint looks like it would make a perfect companion piece to that little number I picke dup at Blade. :D

Kyle,

Really super work. Your handles are indeed flowing nicely out of the blades.

That first hunter is inspired!

GREAT stuff Kyle. That hunter is my favorite, but everything you have shown is well done. That slip joint is exceptionally nice also.

You certainly have an interesting family with diverse skills and interests. The event you held sounds incredible.

Thanks for posting your work.
