Hi everyone!

I haven't posted anything in the past few months so I thought I would show you what I've been up to. I have been doing lots of custom orders for the past few months. I just finished the last custom order I have to do until after Blade, so with the time I have in between now and the Blade Show I will be making knives to have on my table at Blade. I have a big pile of Damascus on my work bench already.

I would also like to thank my brother Caleb for the great pictures he's been doing.

Thanks for looking! Let me know what you think.

First up is a simple hunter with a 4" 5160 blade and a little re-curve. The handle is Ebony. The fittings are German Silver and there are Micarta spacers near the guard.

Here is a simple sheath for the hunter. The fellow who ordered this knife breaks in new horses so he wanted an extra deep sheath so the knife wouldn't come flying out and get lost somewhere.

Here is a Bowie with Four bar "W" Twist Damascus 10" blade. The handle is fossil walrus ivory. The fittings are "W" twist damascus also. The liners are of German silver with "Explosion" pattern file-work. The overall length is 15"

Here are some detail shots of the bowie.

Here is one of the most unique knives I've made. It's a Hawkbill with 3 1/2 "W" twist damascus. Fossil walrus ivory handle. The fittings are "W" twist damascus and it has German silver liners with "Explosion" pattern file-work. This knife and the above bowie are a set. This is the first Hawkbill knife I've made and it's the first set I've done. The blade was a little tricky to grind due to the aggressive drop to the edge.

Last October I took a class with Ron Newton at his shop and he worked step by step on a folder and after each step I would do the same to my folder. Mr. Newton worked with me like this until the last two days of the class when he took over and worked on finishing my folder (I was not going fast enough to finish it in time). By the way the folder I am talking about is the one in the picture with green mammoth ivory. I'll describe the class auto here and then I'll give the story of the other auto with the next picture.

The Class Auto I made under the tutelage of Mastersmith Ron Newton has some of my premium Green Mammoth Ivory. I made the damascus in a Laddered "W" pattern. The blade is 3" long and the overall length is 6 7/8". The trigger is 416 stainless steel with a little Ron Newton classic file-work. The pattern for this knife is one of Ron's. There are also titanium liners that have been anodized to a gold color. The damascus bolsters have 24K Gold inlays. The spring on the inside of the knife is plated with 24K gold and the screws have been heat colored. The pattern on this knife is mostly of my own design with a little influence off of Ron's pattern. I had a great time with Ron and I am looking forward to taking another class with him at the end of this year. Ron's class was wonderful!

This is a knife I just finished three days ago. It is my first sole authorship auto folder. The bolsters are of "Modified Star Burst" pattern damascus and feature 24K gold inlays. The 3 1/8" blade is a new pattern I've never done before and it's name is a little long so here it goes, it's "Modified Star Burst, Feathered Mosaic" pattern. Basically it's the pattern on the bolsters that's been feathered. The handle scales are fossil walrus ivory that's been checkered. The titanium liners are anodized a golden bronze color and have "Explosion" pattern file-work all around. The spring on the inside is heat colored to a golden bronze color as are the screws. My makers mark is on the damascus backbar down inside the handle. This is the first knife I've done checkering on. I will have both of these autos at the Blade show on display so you can see them in person.

Thanks for looking!

Amazing pieces Kyle. Your talent and ability are truly exceptional. The level of your work is so accomplished and you seem to start at a place where others must work for years to reach.

Have always enjoyed your fixed blades and these are fine examples.

Those autos are WOW! Love 'em both. The shapes, materials and details are real eye catchers. Especially like the bolsters and checkered scales on the Walrus knife. Can't wait to see them at Blade.

Caleb's photo's really show these knives well. Very nice job!

Spectacular work.

The "sole authorship" auto is absolutely fantastic! The "green mammoth" auto is very nice as well. Too bad autos are prohibited in Belgium...:(

Kind regards,

Jos

Fantastic knives Kyle! Fro the looks of your folders, I'd say you paid pretty close attention to Ron's teaching:thumbup::thumbup:!Caleb's doing some fine work with his photography as well!

Kyle those are all off the hook. Man you can get it done and obviously are a good student and totally committed.

Great stuff, Jon

VERY impressive display Kyle. Congrats to you on some amazing knives AND Caleb for the great pictures.

I hope to see those knives in person at Blade.

Soon Ron will be having you making a "shootin Newton", but you'll need a new name so that it rhymes:D

I was just thnking to myself that we hadn't seen a new knife of yours in a little while - you've been busy! And what exceptionally beautiful knives you have made.

The feathered mosaic damascus pattern on that checkered ivory auto is just fantastic. And do I ever love that carbon steel hunter - super clean lines and flawless finish can really make an otherwise simple piece really stand out.

Wow, each one of these deserves it's own thread, all of them are outstanding Kyle. I really like your new damascus pattern.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

I am really glad you like these knives.

I'm making a sheath for the hawkbill today. I will try to post pictures on a regular basis like I have done in the past.

Thanks for looking!

All these knives demonstrate the precise execution and attention to detail that one would expect from a maker who has been at it for decades.

The Auto Folder is beautiful and I know from examining your green mammoth auto that its lock & fire is as impressive as the rest of the knife. Perhaps, most amazing is your ability to master new processes as the checkering looks flawless.

Caleb’s photos are outstanding and these are professional quality in my opinion.

Kyle way to go the fact that you keep pushing up the bar really shows how good you are. And very nice Knives.

Love all of em!!!! your style has now become etched in my brain and I can spot it with even the quickest of glances. I love the new work on your folders, can't wait to see more.

Caleb's photos are very impressive as well.....does he have a homepage?

Nicely done.

I knew something was up after not seeing you on the forum except for buying ivory over in the materials for sale threads. Outstanding work Kyle. The folders are a big step forward.

Just exceptional work Kyle. You have really come so far since I first met you at the Arkansas show a few years ago. Really awsome work.
