Here's a few knives I've made in the past 10 days.
First is a Loveless style drop point hunter. CPM 154, wssi chroma-brown stabilized birdseye (from the 60+ yr.old log I found in my barn). I'm using the .015 bright red liner from Pops now instead of the .030. I really like the thin splash of color better than the thicker liners I've used in the past. 416 stainless guard. I hardened and tempered this guard, as I had heard that they polish up better. Honestly, I didn't notice much (if any) difference. As usual, this one also has a tapered tang.
This set of twins is my combat model. These are in CPM 3V with tan canvas micarta/black liner on a tapered tang.
Last one is a morphed X model, also in CPM 3V with green canvas micarta and the .015 red liner on a tapered tang. The added raised thumb ramp is very functional and makes for a really secure grip in any hand hold the knife has to offer.
I've come to love doing tapered tang on my full tangs knives. Not just the look but how they make the knife feel. They truly come to life. I've gotten good enough at doing them that on my knives with no guard, there isn't a flat surface on the knife. A top view shows the profile as a diamond, the apex being at the front of the ricasso. The tapered tang blends into the ricasso area and at the apex changes direction moving into the distal taper. The knives I make with guards have a flat only at the ricasso and the area underneath the guard where it is pinned and soldered. The hunters, being on the small side compared to my Bowie's and Camp knives, are very light and flighty because of the taper......... again, almost alive.
Thanks for looking guys ! I hope you like them.
