a few pack kit questions.

i did a search, but didn't find much in the way of pics.

1. what holds the knife sheath inside? could another sheath be inserted in the same place?

2. is the sheath "generic" or fitted to the knife that you order?

3. anyone have some pics of their rigs or any mods?

pretty slick design, saw it on the website for the first time today.

There's a Chicago screw on the bottom of the kydex sheath that goes through a grommet in the actual pack. You can move the sheath out of the way so you can get into the storage area behind it.

That kydex sheath is pretty generic and holds both the 5 and 6 nice and tight. Some here have fitted the RC4 kydex sheath in the RAT pack also.

the stock kydex fits the five or six. Other sheaths can be installed. Only modding I did was adding a paracord sling to it

The screw holding the kydex in always came loose on me so I just tied it with paracord.

thx! exactly what i was looking for!!

i think im leaning toward the 5 for the kit. id like to reshape the sheath a bit for better retention. not sure i like having to wrap the knife with the cord to keep it in.

you folks have some pretty cool stuff going on over here!!
 
The kydex sheath that comes with the kit hold both the 5 and 6 very tightly, so the cord around the handle is optional really. I can hold the kit with a knife in it upside down and shake it and the knife won't fall out.
 
I put a bit of Loctite on the screw that holds my sheath in. That way it won't come loose, but I can remove it with tools if I want/need to.

The sheath is generic between the 5 and 6. The scales are the same on both, so I would think it would have been doable to leave the blade area unmolded and then molded a retention point around the scales that would have worked for either knife. The shock cord isn't a big problem really, you might find it doesn't bother you.

I'm going to be doing a full review of my own on this, hopefully very soon. It's a great kit and an awesome idea.

ah, good to know.

based on the description on the website, i figured it was a fairly loose fit.

still, it should be easy to heat it with a heat gun and form it a bit to improve retention.

It's tight enough to hold while walking around camp, but while moving/bumping around I'd still wrap it.
