a few pics of my new rabbit dog

That's the truth. They don't know they're little dogs. My wife and I have 2- a Piebald and a black/tan long hair. My wife and mother-in-law breed them. They are serious little hunters, incredible watch dogs and real love hounds too.

Dachshunds are the honey badger of the dog world. Mine would attack anything. She was absolutely fearless.
That is one seriously cute pup. Enjoy him and please take care of his back. They will break your heart when their backs get hurt.

thanks...im not usually a "softie" when it comes to pups, but yeah, i will admit he is a cute little guy. thanks for the advice, the dashchunds are the breed of choice on my fathers side of the family and i have noticed they can get a little plump. i own 10 acres of timber/pasture, so i plan on taking advantage of that and keeping him as busy as possible. hopefully that combined with a healthy diet and i wont have to worry about an overweight "wiener dog" LOL

hopefully this spring i'll be able to post some pics of him honing his hunting skills

How is he doing on basic obedience skills? If he will come when called get him out for some puppytime in the woods. Let him and the nose poke and sniff as much as you can. The sessions don't need to be connected to real hunting yet on your part but the confidence a pup gets from being out with you but free to noodle around off leash is real important. If he has good hunt drive this will set it deep in his early learning, later as he matures you add in a cap gun pop while he is all distracted sniffing in a wood pile. The connection of a loud bang and warm bunny is not to far off at that point. Does your rabbit season go until Feb.? By then I would be toting along a .20 ga just in case Bugsy is out sunning along the way. This thread makes me miss my old dachsie. Have fun and keep 'em in the woods.

in the house, his recall is coming along real well LOL, but when we are outside he is so darn curious it is alot more difficult to get him to obey, so i bought a harness and retractable leash. if i give a little tug and holler "pee-wee COME" he will come back to my side, but he sure is stubborn. i figure i have plenty of time, so im being patient, and letting the little guy explore. i did take him out and let him run some trails i keep mowed for awhile this morning but it was real cool...he decided he had enough sniffing and digging around after about 30 minutes. i plan on introducing him to the pop of a .22, but its all is gonna depend on the weather. we could have a foot of snow tomorrow, and 50 degree weather the next day....Iowa LOL
