A few questions on horn, wood scabbards

Just wondering here, I have a little project/experiment going here, as its one of my first swords that I might be happy with. I have used some elk shed anterler(a very small shed) that I used for the handle, and am unshure about how to finish them. First I would like to get them whiter somehow, without grinding the texture off... can the discoloration be bleached out without hurting it? And what kind of protective finish could I give it(whipe on pollyurathane)? Also I was planning on making a wood scabbard for it. I have some ash around, would that work? What would be a good wood for scabbards?

I don't think bleach will work. I'd just rub gently with steel wool or fine paper. It's white under there, but you will have to sacrifice some of the texture.
Ash will work great for the scabbard. I buy 1/4" boards for mine.
