A few questions on some DMT sharpeners

Hello all, I have a few questions that I hope some of you more experienced guys can help me with. I have been searching both the google and these forums for a while and cant seem to find the answers to my questions anywhere, so here goes. First, a little background info.

I currently have a smiths tri-hone with a fine 1000 grit Arkansas, medium 600 grit Arkansas and a "course synthetic" which I don't know the grit of. I also have a ef/eef dmt dia-fold and a leather belt strop. This set up worked pretty well for me for a while, but im getting more and more into knives, as well as knife making, and im looking to upgrade my system. I recently bought a course dmt 8inch dia-sharp which i love and i hope to eventually get the whole set, from extra extra course to extra extra fine, but unfortunatly they are a bit pricey (to me at least). I also have a cheapo HF 1x30 belt sander which i have been doing my knife making on ( i know it isnt ideal, but it is what i have and im making it work until i can afford something bigger). Anyways, on to my questions.

1. Can I jump from XXC to C on the dia-sharps or is it 100% necessary to use the XC in between.

2. Would the XXC be able to make a secondary bevel on a knife. I have the 1x30 grinder but I just find that i have a lot of trouble making the secondary bevel on it. I cant seem to keep a real consistent angle or get the angle that I want on it. I also have over heating problems.

3. Would the XC be capable of making the secondary bevel?

4. Should I forget able making secondary bevels with stones and just practice more with the 1x30?

P.S. The stones would also be used for removing small chips as well as re-profiling production knives that don't have the angle that I want on them.

P.P.S Thanks for the answers in advance. I really appreciate it. Like I said I am pretty knew at this (I've only made 3 knives and I don't own a whole lot of production knives) but I have done a pretty good amount of reading and I only make this thread out of desperation. Thanks again.

On question #1 go to the XC in between. #2 Yes. #3 Yes. #4 If you can get good with your machine then do it that way as its much quicker. On the P.S. The X-Coarse can reprofile. DM

What he said. :D

Get the XC for two reasons: (1) it will save you time and energy between XXC and C, and (2) you may find that XC is all you need! I regularly reprofile knives with the XC (black) only.
I also would not use stones to set your grinds. That's like... a lot of unnecessary work.

For your stated purposes (grinding out small chips and reprofiling edges), the DMT diamond stones are the best in the business, imho.
