Being able to present the hawk quickly is a must for my needs. And the lack a griping area near the head has me thinking this is best suited as more of a tool than a weapon.
I quite like the sheath sytsem on these hawks. They offer a number of carry options with the molle platform, belt loops and shoulder strap.
The actual sheath its self is nicely done, it has a nice wide mouth so it's easy to resheath the hawk but is fairly flat so it carrys well too. Right out the box one could qwickly and easily deploy the hawk. From the belt it can be deployed into reverse or forward grip, gripping both high and low on the handle. It would be much the same if it was carried on a molle vest too. Obviously having it mounted on a pack would limit its deployment somewhat though.
I went for the short 13" Shrike as I was wanting a weapon like tool that was easier to carry on my person. Also because this model is hammer forged rather than machined from stock and has the insulated handle. I like this wee thing a lot so far and will try it out on a few bush craft duties as well I think.
