A fighter-design. Opinions are welcome!

Bo,

single edge. Thanks for your nice comment!

Because I think that the perspectives-pic has a warping effect, here the original size.

Update:

On the first view not many changes, but the blade is longer and smaller. The grinds are more "normal" and some detail changes at the handle. What is your opinion, better or worse?

Thomas,
the second design looks a lot better IMO (I think you Ruben and I are Germany's top three recurve blade fans :)).
Especially the wider back edge (compared to the original sketch) seems to be far more efficient (blade geometry-wise) - I would prefer a sharpened swedge though.

I would raise the point even more (I know that you like those lowered points, but it's just more practical with a higher centerline) and slightly curve the secondary guard.

How about adding a skull crusher?

By the way, the first drawing you posted kinda reminds me of a kukri...just messin' with ya! ;)

the second design is slightly pointier, but I think the first one looks cooler. But again, doing a wood mock-up would probably give you a lot more practical info then just working on paper.

The second is better.

But i agree, the tip must get i bitt higher, or the handle a bit more down. Maybe a more curved spine. I would try to cover the handle and blade spine under one big curved line, so the centerline from tip through middle of ricasso ends in the upper third part of the back handle (if you don´t know, what i mean, tell me.

I guess, the fingerchoil ends up much to pointy or sharp for comfort grip. A bit less, if the choil shall remain, would be better.

In detail: The cutout at the back edge will not work with the grind lines. It has to be larger, so that the end of the cutout meets the highest point of the grind line in 90°, or the grind line has to go up more straight. The larger the grindline is curved, the larger the cutout.

Without the recurved edge, it looks like a design i´m actually thinking about.:)

I like the thin grind line running a long part of the blade and the bowed bladespine.

drop the handle more, and raise the tip a little. add thumb grooves on the ramp, and round out the finger groove (point) a little - it looks very sharp and may pinch. I would square off the bottom end of the handle under the thong hole (am I clear in my description?) so that the butt is sorta like a wedge shape. This would aid in retention as the pinky would have more grip.

I would consider increasing the width of the blade near the ricasso slightly, to balance out the dramatic recurve. I think you should hollow grind to bring out the beautiful grinds.

anyways, that's just me - your design is essentially great!

Thanks again, for your expenditure of time to comment the sketch!

Regarding the tip/centerline position: Maybe a mistake in the logic, but if I mimimal change the way of holding the knife (for example 3 or 6 degree), I get your recommended level-blade-geometry. So I am irritated about the importance of the tip-postion. Please enlight me!

Tim,
a skull crusher is an idea we will think about!

Blop,
I am not shure if I understand right the "cutout-thing". Please could you explain it via E-mail in German

fishface5,
now we are in the mock-up phase. ;)

spyken,
we will round the second guard tip and presumably decide for a hollow grind.

Here is the result of many changes. I think it is a totally different knife.

Again, opinions are welcome!

Looks real nice.

Something like a Brend marauder. That high hollow grind will certainly make that fighter quick in the hand.

definitely Brend-ish, which isn't a bad thing at all, although the removal of finger-choil and addition of full guard radically changes the handling characteristics from the original model.

What if that design had a single guard design? Lop the guard at the back of the knife off and it would be alot more utility useful, not that I prefer it that way but it seems like that is one big request from others out there regarding other knives. :)

quite. to clarify - goodness, I find this new design of yours quite aesthetically pleasing. :D

The new design looks great. I would love a knife like that.
