Not sure if this is the correct sub-forum, but it looks to be, so here goes:

Enjoy the progress of this build;

A is for my first name, Fisher is my desceased biological fathers last name. while I've carried my stepfathers name for over 30 years, I'm paying homage to my roots and history, and A. Fisher makes a great logo. just watch ;)
Designed as a fighting knife
9" OAL, .200" thickness
compound and saber grinds
High quality European origin D2 tool steel
Design based on simple geometry to keep piercing point in line with grip, and pull into slashes therefore increasing the angle of attack for the blade

I will be using cryo for heat treatment. As a former tool and die maker, heat treating was everyday work. Nothing scary about D2 to me...

This will serve as a build thread, enjoy the process.

Ideas become CAD sketches:

More CAD work for creating scale designs to move over to waterjet. The Micarta and G10 scales will be WJ cut, the wood will be cut by hand... time consuming.

Nesting. Can pull this together to save more material.

Wow .. that's some super-star-wars technology kind of stuff right there.

.... all I got is a hammer.

just checked out your profile, welcome to C&H! Always good to find fellow riders on the forum :)

this looks like an interesting project. I'm currently working on something myself, have some blanks already cut, just looking for a local machine shop to get some of the heavy work done. Looks like you got some major capability already lined up. We should talk...

Wow, now that's cool. I saw 0.5" thick D2 and was like HOLY COW, but to think you're going to split them with the EDM is really awesome; never seen that before.

I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Yea, I toyed with some ideas of keeping them .5"to mill bosses for screws and bolsters, but left that out due to heat treatment complications that would arise. Wire EDM is a handy tool.

Since this got moved, and some items removed due to site policy, I'll add some info omitted in error:

Scales will be 4 each Ipe wood (google the stuff. very neat wood), linen micarta, and G10. the wood handled ones will be satin or stonewashed, G10 and micarta will be PVD coated. These knives will see action as some will be used in the field by "bearded men" who will return feedback for future iterations.

Best sport ever!

How complicated is the design to be machined? The place I worked at for 4 years, that I'm utilizing now, has 5 axis, wj, edm, grinding, etc.

I rode DH for quite a few years, but the local hill closed down. I missed the last season cycling due to a slow recovery from a knee surgery.

this particular project needs surface ground, and I was thinking of getting the bevels kerfed and a few holes reamed and/or chamfered. Should be able to find what I need locally.

that being said, I have a ton of designs I've been working on that could go straight to CAD and then who knows? If you're interested, maybe we can work something out. Drop me a line any time, lorien@loriendesign.ca

Willie, sorry to hear you lost your hill! Me and some buddies are heading over to the Shore tomorrow for a well deserved rip. It's been a long season and I'm looking forward to a little playtime :) Here's my shop on the facebox; https://www.facebook.com/sookemountaincycle

Yup, that's all pretty standard stuff to perform. i'd make friends with a local machinist if I were you. I've heard of sooke mountain cycle. been out west a few times to ride both snow and dirt. Love it out there. Used to rep for Nicolai GmBH actually.

Nicholai eh? They've always had a pretty interesting take on mtb chassis that I kind of dig.

Sorry for the hiatus. I've been working hard on them in my spare time. Tooled up in the meantime, developed all the processes. Fine tuned the heat treat and created relationships with my suppliers. So I'm tooled up and ready to roll. going to be doing batches of 12 from here on out. Here's a few examples of some thus far. 10 more to come, all with different coatings (DLC, cerakote), grips (G10, Canvas Micatra, Ipe wood, etc).

Acid wash, FR4 G10 in tan with random texturing done by hand with a rotary tool. Stainless hardware using standoffs.

"Two tone". Flat grind and raw HT coloring. Tan FR4 G10 with smooth grip profiled with a few sections added for grip. Rotary tool and hand sanded. Stainless Hardware. I am doing two like this, one with Ipe wood scales and custom bronze hardware, this one for a collector in Chicago.

Hope you guys like them! :D

Those came out very nice. Good looking logo too.

Thanks! Much appreciated. Next batch I may move it down and back about .020". some of the ones going to mil guys will have their zap numbers and year instead of the "D2" logo on the opposite side. The recess is for the kydex sheath to 'lock' into.

Q: to get the Knifemaker/craftsman/service provider set up, it's just all automated from the forum and you pay through a webstore to gain access to a subforum? I now realize I should pay for that if I post more.

Cheers
