A fishing trip?

Okay, you're in Key West Florida on that fishing trip you've been planning for a long time. The 'ol lady is back home and you and a few pals are off on an Ernest Hemingway adventure. Fishing for Marlin out in the Florida Straits by day, cold brews at Sloppy Joe's at night till the bar stool bucks ya off. Cutting bait by day, slicing limes for those cold Corona long necks when the sun goes down.

What knife is in your pocket?

WWHC?

(What would Hemingway carry?)

Edit to add; I forgot to put down my choice. I think it would be a toss up between a Eye-brand stag sodbuster, or an old red bone Case barlow.

For me: Either my 330T Old Timer, or maybe a SAK Soldier. I've done a good bit of ocean fishing and have actually found that a Leatherman Squirt P4 does almost anything I need done on a boat (this is assuming you're on a boat owned by someone sensible enough to have at least one fixed blade/filet knife for cutting bait strips and fileting fish). My main onboard tasks are generally snipping fishing line and opening bottles of beer.

For Hemingway: Some sort of stout, plain one-blade folder. Given his time in Europe, perhaps an Opinel or Laguiole or, as jackknife said, a German-made sodbuster.

" I think the main knife he carried was a handmade knife. I saw it on a book one time, it was stag handled, large blade, small blade, saw and a cork screw on the back. Also, believe it had a piece of elephant ivory at the base of the handle. I'm not sure if it was handmade or not. Maybe made by Kendal? But I know he carried several different knives. I have seen, in Cuba, on his desk a knife that resembled a Laguiole. Also, in one of Hotchner's books about him, Hotch say's Hemingway pulled out a large Clasp switch blade!!! "

Your are right , Kindall -Paris - (as a side note the shop closed last year...) had a model made for Hemingway ( named ' the Hemingway' - what else ? ) . Mongin in Biesles near Nogent made this knife model for Kindall .

The boat has Moras and Rapalas in every nook and cranny, and most of my junk knives.

However, since this is traditional, I guess I would have a SS Case Soddie, the full size one.

Well, you'd never get me on the boat, I'm scarred to death of water that deep... :(
But, if I went, it'd be a ever trusty Remington Woodsman Moose, like always. ;) but, a large toothpick comes to mind for bait and fish work!

The grand gentleman himself?
Honestly, I too am a romantic, so what Berkley said sounds almost perfect!
