A FleaBay Fake??

I've got a question on the subject of fakes for the Buck experts:

Is there such a thing as Bantam model 285 with "USA" stamped into blade beneath the "Buck" name ?

All the pictures I found online say no so what say you ?

Any chance you could upload that picture?

I don't have a camera anywhere handy, the picture was taken with a telephone. Alas it shows sharp picture on the monitor behind it rather than letters on the blade but you can discern "USA" under "Buck".

Anyway, it looks like normal 285, just like any other that you can find pictured online, except for the "USA" in similar or identical, but slightly smaller typeface to that used in "Buck" name and with less spacing between the letters stamped underneath.

The kniofe in question isn't mine actually, I've been eyeing this particular model for a while now but decided to wait until I could hold one in hand and base my decision on whether to order me one on that. I was told it was purchased in an auction (eBay) and I can't find a single picture there that would show anything but "Buck" name on the blade. I was also under the impression that all Bantam models are [produced in China (but it doesn't say "China" anywhere, unlike, say, Spyderco Tenacious).

On the subject of the G10 handled liner lock; thanks for the heads up. We have shut down several people selling these on eBay. Unfortunately, they are sort of like rabbits, they show up almost faster than we can stop them. But, we will keep at it.
On the subject of Bantams with a USA stamp, these ARE legit. The Bantams are part of our US transition effort. These are now being produced in our plant in Post Falls, ID (yes that is in the good ol' US). There are still some from China out "there" and we are depleting our inventory of the Chinese version. Eventually all of the Bantam series (283, 284, 285, 286) will be built in the US.

Ooo, thanks for the clarification ! So that means there is really no "closeout" on these models (unlike what some auction titles seem to imply) and that USA stamped piece is actually newer example of the same model so I'm not in that much of a hurry to snatch one anymore :)

The spacing between U, S and A is smaller than that of "B u c k", it looked a bit out of place, especially considering all the images floating online, hence my question. Thanks again !

Last month, I won an auction for a Buck Strider Solution. When it arrived, I compared it to my other BK888s and quickly discovered it was a laser-etched, inferior quality FAKE! Thankfully, the seller refunded my money. The seller purchased the POS from another seller from China. I found more of the Chinese seller's auctions and reported them to the FleaBay cops. My father does lots of business overseas and has told me many times that China has little-to-no regard for copyrights or patents.
