Here is another rustic harpoon blade I forged from 3/16 inch thick 1095 carbon steel. I love this kinda primitive but refined look that always gives a knife a one of a kind character. The tang is
also forged and tapered with my hammer making the shape very comfortable and the balance very good. The flats were worked with a ball pean hammer while still red hot to achieve the pommel
finish. After forging the blade was flat ground with a convex secondary edge honed to a razors edge. File work is added to spine to give the blade an additional touch of class and also acts to
provide a purchase for the thumb. Like the rest of my carbon knives this one is differentially heat treated for good toughness and edge retention (The edge is about 60 Rc with the spine in
the low 50s). Wenge hardwood scales black spacers were selected for the handle and bolted in place with loveless bolts and epoxy; Tung oil is used to seal the wood. The sheath is a heavy
8/9 ounce leather with a leather right hand carry loop.
SPEC SUMMARY:
Steel: Forged 3/16" 1095 with an edge hardness of about 60 Rc
Blade Length: 6.75 inches from tip to wood scale with forged flats, ball pean hammer finished and ground bevels
Overall Length: 11.5 inches
Handle: Wenge hardwood scales with black spacers
Sheath: Brown 8/9 ounce tooled leather with right hand carry.
Price: $125 plus $7 shipping in US
