A. G. Russell Gentleman's Pen Knife

Thanks for the replies, guys!

Barrett, excellent observation! That is actually one thing that I meant to include in my review but I forgot. It's one of the things that I might not like about that blade but only actual use will determine that. My thoughts are that with the edge being lower than the kick, the back end of the edge might get snagged on the material being cut if I push the blade in too far. I've had some modern knives that this has happened with and I'm hoping it's not a problem with this one as I find it rather irritating. With short blades like this I have a habit of using the bolster's tip as the stopping point when making forward cuts.

When the kick is lower than the edge it helps to prevent this snagging. I'll test this out tomorrow when opening some sealed boxes. Thanks for bringing this up.

I couldn't help myself. I made a New Years resolution not to buy any knives in 2017. This knife broke my streak. It's my first knife purchase in 2017. I couldn't take it anymore.:o

If I like this knife enough, I might get another one. I have a tendency to buy two or more of the same pattern if I really like it. I would be delighted to see those pics!!

Thanks for posting the review and pictures! I really like watch pocket pen knives but sadly there are not too many of them. Off to the AG site I go...

I'm happy to report that I just tested this out on several sealed boxes and it's not going to be a problem. While cutting the packing tape that seals the boxes I intentionally pushed the blade all the way in until the bolster contacted the box. Then I pulled it back out and continued to cut the tape in both directions. No snags at all and I tried this on 5 or 6 boxes.

A good start to the day. Time for some coffee.

Thanks for those pics, YellowSwiss! That Stag looks even better than I expected. A little fat but not excessively so. Very nice!

I appreciate you taking the time to help.

Man, I wish they made this pen knife in that nice red jigged bone. I would buy another one right now if they did.
