A.G. Russell Texas Ranger 2013

Can the 2013 Texas Ranger be opened with one hand? I see the big nail nick but I know that sometimes that Mr. Russell designs it so that you can still open the traditional style folder with one hand. By the way, I think your new Texas Ranger 2013 looks outstanding...love the beefier folders.

It is indeed possible for it to be opened with one hand. The size makes it a little awkward but it is quite possible.

Beautiful collection!

I have one of the non-TR AGR gunstocks. These knives are made incredibly well, and the one I bought was supposed to be a 2nd.

Most have washers in the pivot area, are finished inside the frame, the lock backs use coil springs and most have an internal blade stop.

Easy to open one-handed, but quite difficult to close.;) I can't dis-engage the lock on my 2009 with just my hand (too big to put pressure on both the lock and back of blade at the same time), and have to close it against something. Unlike some lock-backs, though, I don't have to worry about it dinging against the back-spring. I do recommend closing with 2 hands, with these large folders, as they would probably take a bite out of your fingers, if you're not careful.

Mr. Russell has an incredible reputation and his company has one of the of the best warranties/guarantees going so he doesn't require defending. Period.

And yet. . . . . . here you are defending.

Nice looking knife sold by one of the oldest, most respected names in the American knife industry honoring one of the oldest and most respected names in American law enforcement. How ironic it wasn't made by one of the oldest, most respected knife manufacturing companies. Oh well.

Sadly Camillus Cutlery is no longer with us.
And the tooling cost to produce the knife at Camillus for a 1000 piece manufacturing run would likely be in excess of $50 per knife.
And I can tell you, with some degree of authority, that to match the quality that A.G. has pushed this little factory of Knifemakers to produce, would have been close to impossible for us at Camillus to achieve.

I am sincerely not trying to be combative here.
I wish my iPhone was made in the USA.
It isn't.
I got over it & simply enjoy the phone.

That's the price of a sebenza nearly. No way you could tell me there's the amount of work and materials in this close to that.

You must know some people in the American Knife Business I have not yet met.

Let's just focus on one part first.
Please get me a quote on 1000 of the lock bars please.
0.235" +/- 0.001" thick.
Wire EDM tolerance of +/- 0.0002" for all lock dependent surfaces.

pm me for the detailed CAD files if needed.

If you can get them to me for less the $30 each (including materials, heat treat & a little profit for you) I have a lot of business for you.

Thanks for that picture Phil.

Aside from the whole argument about China is an awesome addition to this thread.

My words were, "one of the oldest, most respected names in the American knife industry". So what are you defending against while saying he doesn't need defending? I'm confused now and will go away for a nice nap.

AGR business model has always been to use contract companies all over the world, Italy, US, Japan, China, Taiwan, Germany...If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Interesting, the drawing states it is the "exculsive and confidential property of AG Russel knives, communication, reproduction or use is prohibited." At my company, I'd be fired for posting that.

Something tells me that Mr. Gibbs doesn't have to worry about his job security :D ...Mr. Russell speaks very highly of him in his catalog and in interviews.

Both men have earned a ton of respect in the knife world.
