Blade: shape, profile, geometry, etc SAME.
Blade Finish: Black AG & Titanium Blue BP. +1 for BP. Also, the little AG sticker is a detraction in my opinion.
Sharpness: SAME at least as far as I can tell.
Inlay: SAME
Profile of knife: Does anyone else notice the greater (deeper) concave arch on the BP?? +1 BP as this harkens back to the older 110s.

What'cha fellers think?

yep i can see it also..
note also the blade bolster on the left is a tad more square'ish non the 'corners'
this says there is still a lot of final hand shaping ..
i noticed a lot of fit differences when i cut out the recesses for my displays using a std form guide i made to use as out line .

Makes me want that BP one even more, the photos online made the blade look as dark as the Alaskan Guide, but your photos make it look like a normal blade.

Does the Bass Pro CPM154 blade have a "CPM154" and a Bos stamp on the other side?

Chris,

I think my picture shows the blade color on the BP as to light. It is a light blue...I called it a titanium blue. It is extremely attactrive in my opinion. I'll try to get a picture in good light that accurately reflects the color.

This picture is very close. Its the Vanguard I just acquired. CPM-154. I believe its a BP knife no longer offered.

If Bass Pro Shop offered the 110 in NS, Stag and this Titanium coated CPM-154 blade I would be all over it so fast my hair would catch on fire.

Anyway, I'll work on a better picture of the 110.

Thanks, that Vanguard pic' looks more like the website.

Gotta grab one of those soon, I really wanna try CPM154.

OK, well this one turned out darker looking that I think it is in reality.

I'd say a shade darker than the Vanguard.

Now, I asked myself why was the retail on the BP $6 higher than the AG. I assume the steel cost is the same. I know the charge the same for BG-42 as S30V so I'd assume that of CPM-154. It must be that the Titanium Grey finish is that much more than the Black Oxide.

Well I like the BP better than the AG.

I have both the BP and AG 110. So far I think I like the BP better. However, I did beat the heck out of the the AG the other day and it is still very sharp. I've been alternating hip time with each of them. Love'em both.

BP

AG

I've owned both, have bought and sold several of each, and I concur with you Flatlander, that I like the BP better. Although I think most here prefer the AG. I had never had CPM-154 till the BP this spring and I think I like it better than the S30V, maybe not but it's possible. I will say this, that both of the AG 's I have bought had some blade wobble, not bad but some. The BP I had was tight and as well made as i could hope for.

Flatlander, you pics made me go get another tonight. thanks!! Now I need to sell off another knife to justify. Oh well, Buck Fever struck again! :o:D

Durbin

Geeezzzzz. Durbin I had to pull both those 110s out and check for wobble. Guess what, the AG is tight and the BP has the wobble. The bone 110 I got with the BP is tight as a drum as are all the custom shop knives and old guys from the 70s. My happiness factor just dropped some points with regard to the BP.:grumpy::(

Is the wobble present when the blade is open or closed? There were a few posts in a thread a while back pointing out some wobble when closed that was not present when open. At that time, I checked mine and found that several did indeed same a very slight amount of wobble closed, but locked up tight as a drum once they were opened.

Tin Sue,

You are exactly right, the wobble on my AG was only when closed, and they did lock up tight as a drum, thus the reason, I was not concerned about them. Flatlander, sorry about bringing that up. I do love these two knives, think they may be the best deal going, or close to it.

Wobble is when open and when closed. I'm surprised actually. I've never had a 110 or 112 do that.

I guess I could send it back to BP and either refund of exchange for another but I like the thin profile on the knife. I've got to talk to Pete about an order so I'll ask him if they can fix this one up. Still a pain.

So what do you Buck mechanics think is the best course of action?

No Durbin, don't apoligize. Thanks for bringing up so I can deal with it. I still have all my BP paperwork. I might have thrown it all out tommorrow.

I kinda feel bad bring this up tonight, for the record y'all I did not mean to complain. I love my Buck knives, and even though a couple have had wobble, they were still well built tools. So I want to praise Buck for their great product.

Flatlander, course of action all depends on how hard you are going to use that knife I think. What will you plan to use it for?

I actually hadn't decide to carry it in a EDC type roll. That said I would want it to be able to perform up to Buck standards whether I leave it lounging in the collection or use it to skin a deer or whatever cutting job presents itself.

Don't sweat it fellas, I have 110's that wiggle when closed also, but lock up rock solid.

Never had it cause a problem.

It would be interesting to here from Buck as to the explanation for the difference.

I have a feeling it's probably TOTALLY accidental.

Slight differences in the available parts used at the times the two knives were made maybe.

It would be too hard to believe that anything there had actually happened by design, strategy or forethought.

The BP has a nicer, more graceful shape although I still kinda appreciate the massive club-like feel of my AG.......not graceful, but it IS one substantial piece of hardware.

I think you guys are picking some nits here. Been fondling an Ag and a BP and if there is any variation it is really slight. But I do have an AG that has a black shiny blade. For what thats worth. I believe that has been discussed in times past too.

As I was comparing these two, and old three liner was laying there and I went to comparing it as well. That was more fun than comparing a BP and an AG

Yup, I've got them both too and find them to be terrific knives. However, there is just something about that CPM154...

My 'usual carry' Buck is in fact the BP 110.

Al,

any idea what that something special is that differentiates it from the S30v ? I guess I could google the two, and do some study on the steels, or more profitable would be a search here. Just do not know really how they differ. But I have found the CPM-154 more to my liking as well.
