A Gaijin Speaks

As a long time student and "fanatic" of traditional Nihonto I have to say I really like the modern western interpretations. I think that the Japanese style has some universal applications and works just fine for knife designs today. I really like both Mike and Jerrys work, I would especially like to carry one of Mikes Kozukas or Kwaiken. :D

I do know that among some of the more intense collectors and scholars that I know personally there can be some disdain for some of this stuff but its just snobbery and one of the reasons that I have fallen away from the fold the last few years.

Oh...I just read "hollow brass pins..." I can't see the pics.

And AKADave: I began to adhere to the snobbery thing for a while, but I'm cooled off now. I don't know if a lot of folks would understand the reasons behind it, but it's not a terminal illness or anything. All it really takes to overcome snobbery is to remember that it's more important to keep an open mind than to try closing everyone else's.

Hey Robert,

I havent forgotten the oshigata and pics you requested of my Tadakuni. My company is going through consolidation and its been hell. I will get some to you soon.

I also remember what got me into knives before I even knew about Nihonto. I used to sit on the front porch of the old country store where my granparents live in TN. They would "swap knives" and I just lovet whittling and all the comradery. I still remember my first knife, a two blade folder with pearl handles, I forget the make but I still remember the knife I was swapped with which was an old Anvil folder, I got took but I was only 7 after all!
