Rossi M92 in .357mag, from about 7-8 yrs ago. I always been a .357 mag revolver guy, and I liked the idea of a companion rifle for it. Especially where the .357 in a rifle picks up so much velocity. I don't recall the exact numbers, but I've chronoed 158gr doing roughly 1,800-1,900fps from the 16.5" barrel.
I knew I wanted a .357rifle. It was back when Marlin still made the 1894 in .357 but it was heavy, and I had put stock in the rumors of the dreaded "marlin jam," so I decided to get an 1892 model. Winchester had recently stopped production (and not yet picked up again by the Japanese) and prices on a Win 1892 were through the roof. So Rossi it was. I used the money I had saved to have my gunsmith slick it up, add a brass bead sight, trigger work, etc...
The 16.5" barrel is short, handy, and easy to pack, while at the same time letting me ring the 6" gong at the 100yrd range with open sights. All in all... I'm a fan.
I just picked up a Winchester Model 73 with a case hardened finish. Beautiful!
I was able to hit a target the size of a nickel about 50' away. Nothing impressive, but good enough for a brand new gun with factory iron sights.
I've only shot indoor. My buddy is taking me outdoors once the weather warms up here in IL.
That's a beautiful thing. Those case hardened finishes are something else. I admit, I'm not as current on guns the past couple years since knives took over my hobby interests. Are the new production Winchester lever guns still being made by Miroku in Japan? if so, that's awesome. Miroku has always done beautiful work. I once had a Browning Citori made by Miroku and it was just perfect in every way.
